Re:Jerome Powell Responds on Sunday January 11, 2026 @09:10PM (#46583052)
why? asset holders in this country have a free fed put, wage earners get smashed in the face. you can make a solid case this institution is more harmful and free banking is much better for wealth equality.
Re:Bitcoin is over $100k on Wednesday December 04, 2024 @10:10PM (#42324446)
This is definitely true but btc buys you more of almost anything else too (btc/X): X is one of s&p500, housing, gold, etc. except maybe $nvda or $tsla. For example the btc chart in dollars looks the same as in gold.
It is b/c he says so! Since they dont value it -- it must be stupid or wasteful!
Re:S&P500 Normalized with M2 on Wednesday July 26, 2023 @02:49PM (#36882908)
"Inflation is caused when the money supply in an economy grows at faster rate than the economy’s ability to produce goods and services."

I would rather have (monetary) deflation when then economy grows. Then the money I save in would increase in purchasing power. If I save in the money described in the quote above, I don't participate in the growth.

Re:S&P500 Normalized with M2 on Wednesday July 26, 2023 @01:51PM (#36881913)
Just to be clear, do you believe there is a connection between money printing and decreased purchasing power?
Re:Problems of C, and how Zig addresses them on Monday July 03, 2023 @12:42PM (#36575451)
C is an abstraction over assembly. It is also minimal compared to prolog.

satoshi's use of cash probably referred to the concept of final settlement.
Probably alternating cold/hot temperatures. Probably best to sit in a dry sauna and jump into a cold (very) shower. Nothing beats it. You should come out feeling refreshed, if not sligthly euphoric.
Re:Data Structure Visualizations on Wednesday July 07, 2021 @10:10PM (#27767826)
Possibly the coolest data structure to visualize was invented to visualize complex data: zig-zag from the great Ted Nelson.
Humans, on time scale of 100s of thousands of years. You wouldn't expect Earth to be too dissimilar from today, if not for fossil fuel consumption.
Is it known what are, perhaps narrow, the climate conditions for humans? Humans evolved during the Pliocene which was 2-3 degrees warmer than today.

My gut feeling is not good, especially on geologic time, of which most spans humans would most certainly not survive. It feels like we are tossing 100s of thousands of years of stable climate and pushing Earth to points in its history were fauna/flora were very different from today.

oh man; they should of selected 42 or 1337 study subjects!
he is conflating things with value and a good unit to measure said value -- which is itself very valuable.
bitcoin in its finite, pre-determined supply and halvings every ~4yrs (formed through consensus) while going through s-curve adoption brings forth its unique number go up technology that has economist around the globe stumped
Re:Are pixie fairies behind Bitcoin's latest bubble? on Sunday November 22, 2020 @09:35PM (#25183078)
I just looked at coinbase's about page they have 35MM users now. Bitcoin is going through s-curve adoption like the internet. Fools on here look for conspiracy theories because they ignore demand increasing, for whatever reason.
Re:Things I Was Wrong About: Types on Sunday September 27, 2020 @11:30AM (#24607362)
Yeah.

ML syntax is very pleasant, and roughly, sexprs w/o all the punctuation noise.

I don't believe it has a macro capability like lisps though, but you gain a sophisticated type helper.

Definitely worth looking into!

how about counterfeiting the taxpayer's money?
Look into Cantillion Effect

These policies exacerbate inequality. In fact, I think economic inequality wouldn't be an big issue without this crap.
I am sure these best genes will "trickle down".

What is their position on nuclear? I don't see anywhere were there's a plan to replace Oil + Gas + Coal (renewables atm will not come close!).

James Hansen has the carbon dividend / tax.[0] This is the only thing that will work imo.

Re:Facebook, Libra, and the Long Game on Tuesday June 25, 2019 @12:04PM (#20275574)
Pink plane reasoning like this makes you dismiss bitcoin as not scalable. The blue idea is to scale off chain with smart contracts whether centralized or not.

Compare cos fighting this to those not like cash app which are building on top of bitcoin.

Does anyone know of the implications of a year-round ice-free artic? Is the artic salvageable at this point? It seems evident that soon the artic will have a short period of being ice-free, kickstarting an inexorable process with yet longer periods of being ice-free.

It is safe to assume at this point climate change is like an asteroid on a trajectory of near term collision with Earth. I'd rather be wrong and alive then right and extinct on this one. But thats me.

Re:An Illustrated Proof of the CAP Theorem on Saturday July 14, 2018 @12:51PM (#17531071)
this proof is sound (for this simple structure) but does it imply you can never have all three (CAP) in some scheme where you can draw from many nodes and edges (not infinite) to handle partition failure while always being available and consistent? Perhaps a proof that you need to draw from infinite nodes and edges to achieve CAP would be interesting.

disclaimer: i am not well educated on the literature in Distributed systems :(
