I'd argue that's how every society ever has been structured. We have an innate desire to see our children succeed.

I want to write sql but have my library map between my languages built-in types and my sql types. I feel like something like Dapper is the correct abstraction for communicating with a database.
Re:Amazon ‘flooded by fake five-star reviews’ – report on Wednesday April 17, 2019 @11:17AM (#19683301)
This is why I just pretend 5 star reviews don't exist. I figure all the other reviews are probably legit and look at them. If all the other reviews are 1 or 2 star I'm not going to buy it. If there are 4 star and 3 star reviews it's probably decent.
Re:JIRA is an antipattern on Monday December 10, 2018 @10:15AM (#18648448)
The problem is many times you end up with tickets like 'create a runway' when there are already four perfectly good runways but the person doing the breakdown didn't realize that.

And if your developers don't have a bigger picture understanding then they also won't know that there are already runways they should be using.

It only disables them, doesn't kill them. After the helium has time to diffuse back out the phone starts working again.
I agree, love the concept, let's hope they can pull it off.

Re:Amazon Dark Patterns on Tuesday July 31, 2018 @11:33AM (#17654028)
It's gotten to the point that I no longer even pay attention to the overall score and instead I look at the reviews and ignore any review that is a 5 star review. I figure people aren't going to pay for reviews that aren't 5 star. If the only other reviews are 1 or 2 stars I know it's probably a crap product. But, if there are a decent number of 4 star reviews I know it's probably a decent product.

Re:Oh shit, git: Getting myself out of bad situations on Monday December 18, 2017 @12:01PM (#15953096)
There's an option in sourcetree, "always show output". This will keep the window that runs the commands open so you can always see what it did and git's output. I always keep this enabled.
Disappointed this doesn't work on Windows, looks really cool.
