hi! Does this bring us closer to a gemini-cli like experience using a local modal that can run on a macbook pro? It felt like gemma3n was already 'smart' enough it just wasn't tuned for tool use.
I've lived car free in SF for 12 years it's very walkable! Just start out in the mission for max socializing and transit access and then you can live somewhere else when you've gotten to know the city.

You can take bike share and the bus everywhere, housing is expensive but less so than nyc!

Re:Show HN: A Beginner's Guide to Colorimetry on Wednesday August 17, 2016 @01:15PM (#12306360)
Any time you specify an sRGB color for the web you are building on 80+ year old work to standardize color specification.

I wrote a thing to get anyone interested in color science ramped up on some basics, enjoy!

Visualizing this dataset has been my end of year side project for a few years now.

The hardest part was matching hundreds of friend's various usernames across different services to the same person. It's a process that's difficult to automate, even with some helper scripts it took a couple days to manually curate the mapping.

The svgs for the grid are in pre-rendered static files made with node/jsdom, which was pretty fun to write.

Data sources:

Skype history file

Facebook data download

Google Voice and Google Hangouts data download

Email (for oldschool gchats)

iPhone backups, for SMS/iMessage

Slack API

it worked!

I wrote this to address exactly this intuition about film.

But tl;dr, the experience of shooting film and digital have huge differences and the photos you get at the end are influenced by the process of taking them. They are not just pixels that exist in a vacuum.

He is using the neighbor's guest hotspot not his own.

I think you can connect to your neighbors xfinity hotspot without using up any of their private bandwidth allocation. The hotspot connection gets its own.
Hey cool, my friend made the same extension only it uses github's server highlighted html instead of a javascript highlighter.

I'm getting "ERROR: Quota Exceeded. Please see http://code.google.com/apis/websearch" so I guess that's the answer.

tl;dr An amber alert went out to people's phones, here are 5 tweets about it.
Re:NBC Retracts Complaint, Guy Adams Is Back On Twitter on Tuesday July 31, 2012 @05:29PM (#4319715)
The blog post clearly apologizes for contacting NBC about the tweet content.

"we do not proactively report or remove content on behalf of other users no matter who they are. This behavior is not acceptable and undermines the trust our users have in us. We should not and cannot be in the business of proactively monitoring and flagging content"

Also, the blog post says the account would have been restored as soon as Guy Adams responded to their email and acknowledged the TOS. Complaint retraction or not.

Wikipedia addresses this in their official announcement

This comment seems to argue that this was intentional.

Re:Peter Norvig on dance photography on Saturday November 26, 2011 @11:04AM (#3280008)
Excellent article. The one topic that could use some more emphasis is sensor size. Understanding crop factors is important since it affects what your field of view will be for a given lens. Not to mention the difference in image quality and low light performance between crop and full frame sensors is huge.

Also, I would axe the two examples of photoshop filter/color effects on page three. The article is full of great photos and then it ends with some kind of horrible filter effects.

Re:Show HN: My weekend project - Uberzet on Monday November 21, 2011 @01:32AM (#3260232)
I've manually removed the app via dropbox.com yet my public dropbox items are still visible and downloadable.

This is really a problem since it wasn't made all that clear to me what I was authorizing in the first place

Public dropbox folders still operate on some security through obscurity. Previously you could access files but only if you had the link. Allowing these items to be indexed removes that security so it should be made extremely clear what's going on.

Re:Show HN: My weekend project - Uberzet on Monday November 21, 2011 @01:27AM (#3260228)
I really agree with chrisdroukas, I had no idea I would be sharing my public folder until after I'd already approved the permissions and poked around.

Also when it comes to deciding if I want to share my public folder it would be nice if you could list what's in my public folder for me. I had to go check.

They didn't say the 1300 figure was people hours, they just said hours. So for each of those hours you probably much more people hours.
Re:Sublime Text 2 Build 2139 Released on Wednesday November 02, 2011 @07:30AM (#3186191)
Went Sublime Text 2 over the summer and haven't looked back at Text Mate since. Supposedly we are going to have Text Mate 2 by Christmas though, and then I imagine I'm going to have a tough decision to make.
