Helicopter parenting, now with extra math! Don’t bore about this at the next PTA meeting, let the kid do his homework, it’s clearly intended to get them do some additions

1 second Who cares?
FYI I built a Jupyter plugin as well: https://github.com/cascala/igalileo
It was a hobby/learning project. I learned Scala in the process, and quite a bit of physics.

Building something better or more popular than Python, SciPy was not a goal

Nice write up

I toyed with something like this in Scala: https://github.com/cascala/galileo

Show HN: iGalileo, a Jupyter kernel for Galileo written in Scala

https://github.com/cascala/igalileoThis is the result of a few days of hacking to see if I could connect Jupyter to a Galileo backend.Galileo is a small experimental math tool written in Scala.Feedback welcome: * any advice on how to market this better? * any advice on how to find additional contributors? * what killer features are missing?

Tell a senior person at the company, or the Human Resources person you dealt with. Tell them what you experienced... this is unacceptable behavior and The hiring firm should know.

Interesting use of github

How do you know Microsoft won’t steal your secret sauce?

Being a software developer is a unique profession, since many software developers never received much formal training. For instance, many mathematicians, physicists, (non computer science) engineers write software for a living. Compare that with structural engineers, lawyers or medical doctors: it is very different.

Because of that, I firmly believe many people can work as a software developer and contribute meaningfully to a company's bottom line.

State your ambition and let the results of your work do the rest.

Re:Ask HN: From tech startup to finance. Bad move? on Sunday October 30, 2016 @08:41PM (#12833489)
Interesting choices you have in front of you.

Hedge fund pros and cons: * higher pay * more volatile pay * what is your long-term career path at the hedge fund?

Startup pros and cons: * probably a nicer work environment than a hedge fund * you feel disenfranchised

The simpler argument would be to simply take the job that pays the most. I think there are very few exceptions to that rule.
