Easy for you to say sitting in your first-world, comfortable house with a job that pays you $250,000 USD a year. Try visiting a third (or even second) world country.

You're reading Vice. What did you expect?
The example produces a 670KB binary for "Hello world". Why would I use this over C++?

Why on earth would one trade off a short, static unique identifier for a potentially long, dynamic "link" that essentially binds all data to some crappy API that will be outdated in a few years? Is it really _that_ hard to use keys?
This has nothing to do with Microsoft, and instead reads like a blog entry of a narcissistic, selfish young lady. Good riddance.
NEW website. As in, ONCE and FIRST TIME.
If you're sending JavaScript down the line with every request, you're doing it wrong and should give up your career.
The irony is, the same people complaining about 500kb are probably the same people using a 100MB+ terminal emulator built using a web browser (i.e. hyper).
Goodbye React. You were good to no-one.

Voicing dislike with brutal honesty is far more effective. And it's the truth. Why should the truth be watered down? Just to make a few sensitive people feel better? That's not reality. As far as I'm concerned, that is fraud.

"New Blazing Fast WebGL Engine". Wow really? Major changes - "Emoji support". For fucks sake, seriously?

Am I the only one that doesn't want anything of the following _bull shit_?

* A terminal emulator that is dependent on an entire web browser (not to mention the layers upon layers of bullshit abstractions all to run something from the 70s).

* Support for "emojis" (I mean, come on. It's a _damn terminal_).

* To execute code that can hijack control of my shell from any of the 956 dependencies[1] this _heap of shit_ relies on.

[1] $ git clone https://github.com/zeit/hyper.git $ cd hyper $ npm install $ ls -lt | wc -l 956

Well, it was fun whilst it lasted Firefox. Sorry, but this is a deal-breaker for me.

Hello Chromium again...

It took that many people to build a glorified JavaScript wrapper? Good god.
Sounds like you're stuck up there on your high horse. Come down and chill out dude.
Re:Mozilla WebThings on Friday April 19, 2019 @04:57AM (#19698034)
And how much money do you donate to Mozilla to fund their abandonware habbit?
Re:Mozilla WebThings on Friday April 19, 2019 @04:55AM (#19698023)
And if Mozilla keeps making the same mistakes it will go nowhere.
Re:Mozilla WebThings on Friday April 19, 2019 @04:53AM (#19698017)
A failed OS is being paired with a failing Mobile manufacturer. Good riddance.
Re:Mozilla WebThings on Friday April 19, 2019 @04:52AM (#19698011)
How exactly is that "eating up global market share"?
Re:Mozilla WebThings on Thursday April 18, 2019 @10:10PM (#19696515)
Source for the supposed "eating" of global marketshare? I can't find any marketshare report that even mentions such an OS.
Re:Mozilla WebThings on Thursday April 18, 2019 @10:06PM (#19696494)
So you're encouraging Mozilla to create more abandonware?
Re:Mozilla WebThings on Thursday April 18, 2019 @10:06PM (#19696492)
And six years ago, mobile was a quick-growing massive and ubiquitous field. How did that pan out for Mozilla? A failed operating system and the beginning of a huge decline in both marketshare and performance for Firefox.
Re:Super Mario Bros. has been released for the Commodore 64 on Thursday April 18, 2019 @10:04PM (#19696484)
Which book is that?
Re:Mozilla WebThings on Thursday April 18, 2019 @07:37PM (#19695736)
C'mon Mozilla, please. Less projects that will end up like Firefox OS, more work on _Firefox_.
Re:I got tired of PHP and Perl, so I tried bash on Saturday April 13, 2019 @12:39AM (#19651153)
Conjecture: Anyone that spends over ten years making a living writing the same programming language will have major P(LANGUAGE)-TSD. I feel like the deeper concern is more a psychological fear of moving your career in a backwards direction. PHP just happened to be a part of that.
Re:I got tired of PHP and Perl, so I tried bash on Saturday April 13, 2019 @12:37AM (#19651146)
So, you hated the _work you did with PHP_, not really the language.
Re:Firefox banning noisy video from autoplaying on Friday April 12, 2019 @10:01PM (#19650605)
But why should a video automatically _begin_ playing if I can't see it?
Re:Firefox banning noisy video from autoplaying on Friday April 12, 2019 @09:53PM (#19650573)
Am I the only one to feel that autoplay video should be disabled by default, ESPECIALLY if the video isn't even being rendered inside the visible portion of the viewport when it begins playing? I am _sick to death_ of random noise coming from web pages (namely, news articles) and having to try and find the source of it.
Re:Atom 1.36 on Friday April 12, 2019 @09:46PM (#19650553)
I tried 1.36.0 and found it pleasantly faster than I remembered, especially the highlighting on large files. I would. Startup-time is still painfully slow, but it feels like once it is "up and going" it's just as fast.
Re:I got tired of PHP and Perl, so I tried bash on Friday April 12, 2019 @09:38PM (#19650518)
Except that PHP does have a REPL, and using PHP_EOL is hardly a big deal. PHP induces an undeserved gag-reflex for most Ruby / Python / JS devs because they read some "why php sucks" post on someone's blog ten years ago, but really the language is quite modern now (not to mention faster).
