basically, does the government have its thumb on the scale makes it legal. Gambling is so bad and illegal, except when the pennsylvania lottery does it. Alcohol, bad and illegal, except when the state monopoly sells it.

in a room full of experts, sometimes it takes an idiot to point out, really none of these things requires Ford to store data in a way it can access
Re:The Ford Privacy Promise: You're in Control of Your Data on Monday November 02, 2026 @07:36PM (#50346394)
it requires telemetry to remotely access certain features on their car? that doesnt seem correct.

Why is there even data
laws are a tacit agreement between the people and government that is all.

don't let it stop you, but don't conflate open source with open core or 'democratic governance' etc.

Open source is open source. publishing code.

it does not mean

- you need to respond to peoples PRS

- it does not mean you need a github

- it does not mean you need to provide ANYTHING to the user. No warranty.

- you do not need a mailing list

- you do not need governance

Do what you want, have fun, if you have peers or other people interested in your area, feel free to collaborate in the same way you would with pickup basketball at the park, play, have fun, and leave when you're done.

I can imagine it's difficult. It's a company unlike very many others. A few in size and scope that deal with technology, probably none quite in its position. Additionally, if you only work at one place its very hard to start elsewhere in your career.
and both words both have similar etymology / history - quassare
it's not just experimental fiscal mindsets, cash was a lot cheaper then. funding was cheaper. now it's less. LLMs don't help but some of these headcounts were taking advantage of the free/cheap debt.

perhaps, or you could not give your application access to user data without authentication. there are strategies.
no i mean literally the sentence structure
Can someone explain the weird phrasing here "Nothing moves, so references survive growth" that AI does.

Re:Upcoming Critical PHP Security Release on Tuesday October 20, 2026 @11:36PM (#50175777)
no idea why this is downvoted. PHP runs typically on linux machines. If you depend on a language feature to prevent 'exploit' and don't utilize the operating systems features to limit access to data.

Shell access is not good, but in many places that wouldn't be the end of the world either.

Rethink your strategy

it must be what TV was like in the 60s. only a few channels. everyone had the same jokes the next day in school or work. We all saw the same episodes.

In this way each time ChatGPT or Claude is released, new memetic phrasology is emitted into the human psyche at astoundind speed.

more fun, 'A Renegade History of the United States'

once your wheels leave the road, its hard to slow down. Just getting to zero mph before flipping 100 times and rolling over would be immensely useful.
we already have it, it's called the Villages.

email was included by ISPs as a service, people continued to expect it for free.

other networked systems (EDI VANs) charged traditionally per document, sometimes even per character.

though I mean people literally PAY to PRINT PHYSICAL CRAP and MAIL IT right to my junk box. half of my mail is junk.

how much is an email worth?

Ever see Office Space? You missed an opportunity
Re:Leaving Tech on Monday October 12, 2026 @11:06PM (#50066096)
the higher, better, more up you go, the fewer jobs there are. that's why big league people at normal (not fang) ask for parachutes. there's not that many XYZ companies in XYZ area that need a CFO, CTO, Head of ABC. Anyone can get an entry level job, but the higher you move, the harder it is.

Also - do people who write ruby books make companies more money?
