What’s behind the N26 employee exodus?
Ask HN: Have you ever coded while being high? What was the result?
I've heard the phrase "Think high, work sober" and I basically agree with the premise. I don't smoke when I have a deadline, but sometimes I like to change my perspective and mind-space sometimes. Mostly I had really good ideas about coding (or solving problems/bugs in a much different way) when I smoked weed.Have you ever coded while being high? What was the result?
I'm running to B2B SaaS with subscriptions. The more customers I have, the more time I spend on support tickets or billing stuff. I'm really bad at self-discipline, but after 6 years working from home I finally find a routine that works for me. I start working very early (around 4-5 a.m.) and try to keep my afternoon for my own projects or time outside. I also try not to use social media before 1 pm.
I've stopped judging myself when I sometimes have days where I do absolutely nothing. It's fine. I like to relax my mind and wander off a bit. There are other days coming where I'm working till late and are much more productive.
A probationary period is not only beneficial for the employer, but also for you (which many forget): If you don't like the job after a few weeks, you can quit short-term (as for example in Germany within 2 weeks or even less) and just leave and start in another company.
I wake up around 04:30/05:00 (without alarm), make a coffee and work till 8 or 9. So i already worked a lot without getting notifications or emails from co-workers, they are still sleeping.
Around 9 i have a shower and make a little break. Around 10 i work again till 1pm and the rest of the day i'm still online for my co-workers, but not really working anymore. After 1pm i mostly work on my own projects or do groceries and so on.
What really helpmed me are Qbserve (https://qotoqot.com/qbserve/) to track my productivity and Flow (https://flowapp.info), a Pomodoro timer. I can block social media and other stuff with Flow to don't get distracted in the morning. I don't open social media (also HN) before 1pm.
