I am also curious to know if having the system clock in UTC and storing times using UTC, which I understand UNIX-based operating systems do, avoids these types of issues. It should make them easier to manage, is my guess.
This week, I asked Claude Code to generate an MD to continue working on another computer, without losing the context, and it refused claming some sort of extraction. It was only until I selected Opus, that it completed the request.

My condolences. Such a nice way to honor her memory with one more backup.
My understanding is that the theorems apply to any "formal systems". If my assumptions of computers being part of "formal systems" is correct, then the theorems should apply, per my understanding.
I can only think of Edsger Dijkstra's quote: "Program testing can be used to show the presence of bugs, but never to show their absence [...]". Adding that computers are mathematical models and Gödel's incompleteness theorems stating that a system cannot demonstrate its own consistency, I would say that it is likely that bugs/errors will always exist.

I have heard from some power users that Brave is one of the best browsers with regard to ad-blocking and privacy. But I think I have read elsewhere that it receives money from ad companies to display only certain ads, which does not make me trust it. Does anyone have facts or know where to find them?
Re:English: A vs. An on Sunday September 20, 2026 @01:28PM (#49777923)
Something that Spanish has, that your "vi a Fred" example reminded me of is that when the direct object of a sentence is a person, you use "a": "vi a Fred", "escuché a mi mamá". Unlike unhuman objects: "vi el carro", "escuché un ruido".
Thanks for the article. However, the article mentions that they might involve precipitation.

I watched this movie and missed that this was mentioned. Funnily, I am from and live in Nicaragua and find it funny that we have no such land formation. I am assuming that is the point you are trying to make.

As a speaker of English as a second language and being educated using American English, I find British English richer in a cultural and expressive manner. It also conveys more properness.
Re:Have You Restarted Your Computer This Week? on Tuesday June 30, 2026 @06:05PM (#48739869)
I boot my computer every time I will use it and shut it down when I am done. No matter whether on Linux, Windows, or Mac. It's a mindset thing: I will sit at the computer, do what I have to do and then shut it down. Just sharing my way of using it.

Wake up, Neo...
This is exactly the type of criteria that WhatsApp search struggles with. It basically assumes the user does not know how to type.
Re:Linux From Scratch ends SysVinit support on Monday February 02, 2026 @02:12PM (#46859944)
From a completely technical standpoint, is systemd really better than SysVInit? I ask this question in good faith. I have used both and had no problems with either, although for personal preference, I am more traditional and favor SysVInit.
Re:Microsoft probably killed my Snapdragon Dev Kit on Tuesday January 06, 2026 @10:06PM (#46522044)
Not sure how much it could help, but is there a possibility you connect the SSD to another machine with the same architecture, run Windows install in it, then once Windows is installed and running, shut down, move the SSD back to the Snapdragon kit and attempt to boot? Just an idea...
I thought I had read you had 1048576 of karma and thought: what a coincidence: 1 megabyte worth of karma.

BTW, this comment is supposed to be joke-ish.

I had a similar issue, but I ended up installing Debian and running Windows 10 as a virtual machine with VirtualBox. The webcam can be accessed as if were installed on the guest OS and haven't had a problem with Zoom or Teams. Just sharing in case it helps.
Exactly. This is the best example of what Windows 11 is. I have the feeling that Microsoft is trying to bring change at the same time that it cannot, and has to come up with workarounds like this one. This would explain the Settings panel like someone mentioned in this thread. Another thing that I dislike (with all due respect to developers of React) is this migration to React and Reactish behavior of Windows. We have been fine with Win32 after so many years. Why change that, other than wanting to stay "relevant" or "modern"? Just my opinion.

Thank you for sharing. I have always found Japanese focus into the smallest detail as something worth of the greatest admiration. And I am always trying to learn from those ways to apply it into my life.
Re:Show HN: Autism Simulator on Wednesday October 01, 2025 @12:42PM (#45439879)
Very nice game. Barely made it to getting to the office and receiving orders from a manager. I could completely relate to the "hot desk" experience, that's something that would irritate me. I do not claim to be in the spectrum, nor have any diagnosis to claim or reject it. Again, congratulations for the game and the feeling.
Just adding this comment to say congratulations and how impressed I am by your project! I've been an OS Dev fan since my teens and it feels great to see this achievement come to life. I am a little curious to know how the graphics subsystem is initialized. I wish you the best of success.
That’s exactly what I thought.
Re:All of Earth's water in a single sphere on Wednesday August 14, 2024 @11:56AM (#41247516)
I completely agree with you. Let's add to the fact that volume, being three-dimensional, is being represented on two dimensions (graphics on a computer screen), which might cause some loss of perspective, fundamental for comparison. Perhaps a better way to represent it would have been the volume of inhabitable land (as you suggest) vs the volume of available water but extrapolated to two dimensions?
I am not sure if I like the font or not, but I do like the corpus of text used to demonstrate the character rendering. At first glance, I thought it was Quenya or Sindarin, but I am not too sure.

Hi Jake. We do not know each other, but in reading your story I can tell you that you are loved even by we who do not know you. May the Lord God bless you and your family and provide the peace needed.

Place to Hangout for Developers?

Hi HN, I'm a junior web developer, but I have interest in computing in general. In my geographic location, I have a hard time finding people with similar interests as those that I have seen in Hacker News, which I believe are similar to mine. What would be a good chat/conversational community to join? I have heard of Discord and other services, but I have never used any of those before. Thanks.

On my side, I listen to Unreal Tournament OST, Hitman OST by Jesper Kyd and a playlist of tracker music from the 90s on Youtube. Occasionally, I also listen to Kraftwerk "Computerlove" album and Rage Incoming OST.
