AI should be only used for activities that Humans can't do. Replacing humans just for reducing cost should be illegal. In fact we should make LLM use illegal for everything that is not at the forefront of scientific / math discoveries.
That is the reason why Oligarchs and Governments are salivating at AI. To make everyone dependent for a paycheck. Any dystopian fantasy can come true after that.
If people stop using AWS,Azure and GCP the economy would improve by 10%. Using cloud services is a massive waste of money.

Ask HN: Does "vide coding" for Hardware exists?

I always wanted to make cool gadgets but learning electronicsand make my own PCBs always felt daunting. Are there anyvibe coding equivalent AI tool that automatically design PCBsbased on what you want? I think it would be be great to gofrom "Anyone can code" to "Anyone can make anything.

I don't know how they are measuring productivity. For me it is insane productivity boost.

Here is how I use it:

1. Investigate issue in the codebase

2. Write unit tests.

3. Quick experiments.

4. Help with terminal commands and one off scripts.

5. Boilerplate code.

6. Work at higher level than language syntax.

7. Avoid wasting time looking for solution on the internet.

Ask HN: What to do with this new found coding superpower?

I have been coding for 20 years and worked on very wide range of technologies. From kernel level to web apps. I consider myself a solid 1x engineer. I can now work as 10x due to AI tools. It makes me feel like I can do anything but I am utilizing only 10% of what I am capable of using AI tools. It is giving me FOMO. Want to know your thought if you feel this way and what are you doing about it.

Winner takes all model. Hard to compete with apps that are spending millions of dollars a months on ads.

Ask HN: What alternate career is possible for Software Engineers?

I have been working as Software Engineer for over 15 years. Last 6 years at Google. I was laid off a year ago and no matter how well the interviews go I get rejection. Interviews have also become much harder than few years ago. Asking LeetCode hard even for tech screening is very common. I feel like I am fighting a losing battle staying in Software Engineering field where standards to get hired...

Re:Ask HN: How to build COVID-19 test kit? on Friday March 06, 2020 @01:06AM (#22501330)
Why would I need FDA approval if I want to use test for myself or friends? Bio hackers do all kinds of experiments with CRISPR technology.

Ask HN: How to build COVID-19 test kit?

I am curious if there are any biotech experts here who can answer this. Can we open source methods to build COVID-19 test kits? What raw material, tools are needed to pull it off. Given the current testing disaster going on in the US. Would it be possible to go decentralized?

NCAA literally has the slave model and most likely has origins in that mentality. Just like a race horse can't ask for money because it is a property of its owner, student athletes are not any different from NCAA perspective. It is strange to think that such rule existed for so long in the "free" society.

Ask HN: How do you manage complexity in your codebase?

I think managing complexity is at the core of what software engineers do. Anyone can implement complex systems but it takes lot of careful thinking and experience to build systems that are simple. What are some of the ways have you successfully managed complexity in your codebase or system. I am interested in knowing real examples of your technical decisions that really paid off in terms of...

Re:Artificial gravity breaks free from science fiction on Thursday July 04, 2019 @12:06AM (#20351425)
This headline should win the clickbait of the year award.
Could you please elaborate on how it changed your life? I am interested in learning Elixir and wondering if you can give some words of encouragement, assuming it changed your life positively :)

>> move to a normal place where you could buy a super nice house in cash and then work remotely.

Can't you do that without doing time in Silicon Valley?

Deep Learning also works on very small data sets by means of embeddings. A large model trained on large data sets can be used as feature extraction tool for training for small data sets.
Re:Machine learning leads mathematicians to unsolvable problem on Saturday February 02, 2019 @10:11PM (#19067571)
So what is the meaning of "ML experts" if all they do is trial and loss experiments! Is Math PhD just used for hiring signal rather than actual requirements to do ML projects?
Even working at Google just for 8 months was a resume booster? Don't they ask you why you left in such a short time?

Ask HN: How to get better at naming things?

Naming is considered one of the hardest part of programming. In one survey, programmers mentioned naming as the most time consuming part of their work. Yet I don't see any resources on getting better at naming things in software. Are there any books and resources that can help you get better at naming?

Re:The United States Is Now the Largest Global Crude Oil Producer on Wednesday September 12, 2018 @07:57PM (#17974704)
So if USA is producing so much oil why is it not able to pay for things like Healthcare? Presumably oil coming out of the ground is free. Where is that money going?
> read "The Design of the UNIX Operating System", read "TCP/IP Illustrated Volume 1"

What? Those are unnecessary details as far as software engineering is concerned.

Re:H1Bs are currently indentured slaves on Saturday September 08, 2018 @11:58AM (#17941384)
You need to take a trip to your home country and see conditions of poor people there. You are basically mocking them when you say you are a slave who makes $500k/year. Most people in your home country can't even imagine to make that much in their 10 lifetimes. Have some perspective dude.
Re:Insured, but Still Owing $109K for a Heart Attack on Tuesday August 28, 2018 @01:16PM (#17860671)
Supply of doctors is definitely an important issue. But prices are high not because they can't find doctors. It is high because they have no real competition. When someone is suffering from a heart attack what options do they have than to go to the nearest hospital? Even in non-emergency situations people chose to go to the healthcare provider nearest to them. Also even if we assume people magically able to chose any healthcare provider in the country by teleporting themselves. On what basis they are going to make decision? Prices of healthcare services are opaque and almost secret until they surprise you with 6 figure bill.

That is why i laugh at republicans (Ben Shapiro et al) argument that healthcare competition is what making it the "best" in the world. Don't compare it with restaurant business.

Ask HN: Are there bootcamps for developers to become founders?

There are bootcamps for people to become developers in 3-6 months of time but are there bootcamps that help you become a founder?I feel there is a mental resistance in me (and may be others) to feel ready before they can start a company. There are a lot of skills involved in starting a company. I am looking for something like a Toastmaster but for Startups where you can learn skills and have a...
