Re:If I Let My Kid Play Outside, They'll Be Bullied on Wednesday June 11, 2025 @06:56PM (#44252690)
Naw, they'll get run over by a car and it'll be your fault.
A walkman costs like what, $20? A cell phone is hundreds. Do you, as a teacher really want thousands and thousands of dollars of students' electronics stashed in your drawer?
My circle is 90.6% perfect, can you beat that? https://neal.fun/perfect-circle/ Edit: Wow! My circle is 96.5% perfect, can you beat that? https://neal.fun/perfect-circle/
Also got 90
you just have to get the pee into the urinal first...
Re:Should we let cars use the road as a projection screen? on Monday September 12, 2022 @04:03PM (#32816095)
There are already too many problems with cars using roads as cars. Cars have monopolized public space in an unprecedented way that needs to be vastly scaled back.
Re:Venice to introduce entry tickets and fees on Thursday July 07, 2022 @12:16PM (#32015899)
This is already not always the case, depending on which bridge they use.
Re:New MacBook Air with M2 on Wednesday July 06, 2022 @03:29PM (#32005660)
So strange there's no notch in the main picture on the announcement. The top bezel does not look the same as on the product page either, even aside from the notch, it's too thick.

edit: the very last picture in the article also shows the wrong bezel. So strange...

hm, interesting. Even better: potentially, instead of negotiating prices one on one, we could form some sort of large collective enterprise that was beholden to us so that it could negotiate prices on our behalf. I'd bet if there was such an group that represented a large enough % of us, we could get some pretty good deals. Now, what would we call it...
Re:The Absurdity of the Backlash Against Joe Rogan on Monday February 07, 2022 @06:11PM (#30252796)
If musicians want to pull their music off of spotify in protest, they should. If spotify wants to keep Joe Rogan on their platform, they should. I think think spotify owes Joe a platform, whatever the case may be about his using the n-word or other issues. Cancel culture is mainstream now, not just a leftist symptom any more. I personally think Rogan will be fine. He makes podcasts, he can host them anywhere he wants and his audience will follow. He'll probably come out ahead if spotify cancels him.
I dunno. The boat is being built behind the bridge by a local company. I'd be pissed if it was just Bezos sailing through for fun.
Ironically, people do kind of do this, with discussions about traffic, except that nobody benefits. Everyone wants to drive, and no one wants to be stuck in traffic. Restrictions on driving like tolls or special driving zones, bus lanes, etc. all seem to meet the same kinds of headwinds in the US. Maybe this is too far of a stretch for a connection, but your comment got me thinking.
Yeah, that's why so many ships are registered to specific countries too, so they can operate with looser restrictions. It's basically "offshoring" but for the regulations. When I worked in fisheries, I remember seeing so many boats registered to Panama, and never knew why: http://www.pmacertification.com/advantages-of-registering-a-...
People often conflate technological progress and some sort of overall bettering of society. Science/Technology have nothing, inherently, to do with morality, and people have not changed much. The future may be published by technology, but it will be written by our impulses.
Re:America’s Dead Souls on Thursday May 20, 2021 @04:58PM (#27227143)
A big part of the jokes I seemingly missed reading it in English, according to a friend of mine who read it in Russian, is that some of the landowners and other characters' names are untranslated puns.
Re:There’s no such thing as a tree, phylogenetically on Monday May 10, 2021 @09:40AM (#27105871)
Yeah, I’ve seen some plants, when looking to buy, where they are described as annuals, or perennials if in the right climate.
Homebrewers use them, for yeast culturing or making starters. I guess that's fairly lab-like, but they do it in kitchens.
Re:Facebook reported fake numbers to advertisers on Friday February 19, 2021 @12:35PM (#26195558)
The article mentions fake or duplicate accounts but not those that exist for dead people either [1] which would seem to become more and more important over time.

Re:The account of realDonaldTrump will be locked for 12 hours on Wednesday January 06, 2021 @07:31PM (#25665227)
Well that doesn't make sense. The sacredness of the capitol should demand that it be protected. Images of law enforcement preventing a mob from disrupting the act of signing off on the transfer of power would be a strong statement that needs to be made, I think.
How long does the account last? Are there any limitations?
Re:Tabletop Simulator on Wednesday October 28, 2020 @07:13PM (#24925247)
Vassal isn't a physics simulator like TTS, but it's a widely used board game engine.
Re:All DuckDuckGo bang operators on one page on Monday September 28, 2020 @07:24PM (#24622354)
These bangs have honestly changed the way I browse. With Ctrl+T, Ctrl+L, Ctrl+W, and tab-switching, the browser feels like vim in a small way. Without my mouse, I can open a new tab or switch to a new tab and immediately search Wikipedia, Amazon, IMDB, etc. All of this helps me not need Google if I know the best domain to look in, and it saves time.
Re:Chuck Feeney Is Now Officially Broke on Thursday September 17, 2020 @01:15PM (#24507254)
There will always be force in the equation. Do you think that your payments to the armed bands that would replace government would be lower?

I was thinking the same thing, if what the court was saying was that the land has always been a reservation, then, uh, get ready for the mother of all tax refunds.

Re:Room 641A on Friday May 29, 2020 @02:28PM (#23353701)
Not normally, but temperament depends on a lot of things. I've read that socialization and temperament of the dog's parents are important.
