Location: Portland, OR

Remote: Willing, in person preferred

Willing to relocate: No

Technologies: React, Typescript, Python, PHP, SQL (Many dialects), Git, Nix, Rust, C++ all used professionally

Résumé/CV: https://elanora.lol/resume

Email: [email protected]

Hi I'm Elanora, I'm a fullstack engineer, currently redoing my personal site and relearning how to walk after a cycling injury lol. My favorite feeling in this industry is looking at something I contributed to and being proud enough to attempt to explain why it is cool to my non-technical friends and family. I like to bring that energy to every project I work on and team I work with. Feel free to email me or contact me on the LinkedIn linked in my resume.

I don't understand the Musk fandom in the comments, I've never seen anything to signal to me he's been anything but a savvy investor? He's a better engineer than the average finance bro sure, but seems far from notable in any discipline this site typically cares about? His acquisition of Twitter destroyed the lives of many hard working people and has made it okay for many more companies to follow similar dark patterns (insane API pricing, furthering content lockdown, probably other stuff I don't like to see in the industry)

The Wikipedia Manual of Style is a good guide to cases like this

To answer your question, she/her is correct, and a brief note that she went by Walter at the time is sufficient to avoid confusion.

My bad I wasn't clear, iPhone 11 Pro on iOS 16.1
This looks so cool! Unfortunately, my 16.1 11pro is crashing before an image can be generated, let me know if I can do anything to debug/test this.

Am I missing something? Or is there no actual documentation for its current incarnation? Clicking the link and then following the link for documentation is an infinite loop.
Seconding this recommendation,my DT990s are the most comfortable headphones I have ever owned. They are the only pair I can wear for most of the day and feel no fatigue.
Re:Advanced console.log Tips and Tricks (2020) on Tuesday June 15, 2021 @11:59PM (#27524753)
console.table() is a favorite of mine for a variety of reasons, but one of the most important to me is that it's really easy to quickly find a giant table in a wall of text if I'm logging a bunch of other stuff.
I haven't downloaded the torrent (and won't download it), but looking at the kat link, something weird is going on here. It says the torrent was uploaded and last updated 5 years ago in the video category of the site? Ubuntu 20.04 was released in, well, April of 2020. Unless I'm missing something that torrent can't possibly be Ubuntu 20.04, but it sure lines up that it could be Rebirth (2016) after all.
Worked perfectly on Firefox 88.0.1 on Windows. Great to know despite my efforts to balance privacy and anonymity, there is another metric that I'm unique in. Fingerprinting is just insidious.
Re:I Hacked the Apple AirTags on Wednesday May 12, 2021 @02:27PM (#27133528)
Please note that I did not hack the Apple Airtags, I'm just using the video's title :). All credits to stacksmashing of course.

>Einstein is probably the most famous fraud of the 20th century. Strange how many people don’t realize he plagiarized his own wife.

Could you provide a source on this? DDG only shows youtube videos and conspiracy websites when searching.

Re:Intel in Macs (2007) on Wednesday July 08, 2020 @12:51AM (#23766993)
Holy cow! I've seen people complaining, but that is so much worse than I could have expected. So strange to come from Apple of all vendors.
Not the person you are replying to, but on Firefox 75 player.vimeo.com is requesting WebVR permissions on gentle.app upon first load.

Also just quickly I want to say I love the idea and intentions behind Gentle! I haven't had a chance to play around with it too much yet but it really is a pretty app too.

I can't even tell you how much fun my friends and I are having with this game right now. The ability to do anything in the game (so long as the AI understands it) is just incredible. Thank you for sharing this!
Most of the TVs provide a software update functionality, maybe custom firmware that disables networking hardware could become a thing.
Re:ICE arrests 90 more students at fake university in Michigan on Wednesday November 27, 2019 @02:24PM (#21651073)
I'm curious as to how much money this entrapment program cost compared to the cost of extending visas/offering citizenship.

I've found one of the best compromises is using setting uBlock Origin to advanced user mode, globally block 3rd party frames, and enabling a few extra filters that I don't know off hand.

Most sites will still mostly work, and the few that don't usually just need a CDN to be enabled (you can do this per-site).

Yes it happened to me, a hotel was priced significantly cheaper on Google and on their site initially. When the price went up I just called the hotel and the higher rate was their standard and only rate that they offered. The initial advertised price was never an actual option.

Nothing to add, but I really love his question. It's so pure and innocent haha
Re:macOS 10.15 Vista on Tuesday October 08, 2019 @08:54PM (#21198909)
You certainly could, however I guarantee a huge majority of users wouldn't read a lick of what they were agreeing to.

Individual popups don't completely solve this, but it makes more obvious that a specific application is requesting a large amount of permissions. They're a bit more digestible to the crowd that won't bother to read an alert longer than one line.

Re:Prescription drugs and grapefruit a 'deadly mix' (2012) on Sunday September 29, 2019 @04:20PM (#21109389)
Hah I know right? I do wonder however, is there a use case for these furanocoumarins found in grapefruit? Perhaps it could make for more efficient drugs that could (potentially) be cheaper? Or perhaps doctors prescribing ludicrously expensive drugs (like the cancer drugs listed) could prescribe a lower dose and a grapefruit concentrate?
Re:Running GitHub on Rails 6.0 on Monday September 09, 2019 @11:13PM (#20924756)
Speaking of PHP, I'm really enjoying using Laravel as of late. I'm not super experienced in web development, but the Laravel experience is my favorite so far. The Laracasts tutorial series is also top-notch. I really wish other projects had official video tutorials like them.
Re:Tell HN: Thank you for not redesigning Hacker News on Sunday September 01, 2019 @03:52PM (#20854419)
It seems to fall back to the old mobile website for me? This is after clicking the fallback prompt.
How would one achieve this on Windows short of having the entire Windows install be isolated from your main OS? I would assume most users would not want to run their games in a VM inside Windows for performance reasons.
As I understand it, yes. According to my friends who vape, Juul is still way ahead of everyone in the juice department. So much better they'll spend close to $60 a week on the stuff...

Pretty sure that's more expensive per volume than printer ink!

Re:P++ idea: FAQ on Tuesday August 13, 2019 @09:59AM (#20685883)
No I did not make a formal list, but I probably have some gists from when I started that could jog my memory a bit. Where would be the best place to provide feedback?
Re:P++ idea: FAQ on Monday August 12, 2019 @04:48PM (#20679830)
I'm very interested in this and will be watching to see where this goes. I've just started PHP this summer as an intern at a company that uses it. At first I was really put off by the language, I had never seriously worked with either web languages or languages that used dynamic typing. So many things seemed strange, dated, or even just plain wrong. On top of that, the official documentation is often confusing as far as best practices go and the ~20 year old comments can only add to confusion (though it is neat when one helps out).

All that said, I've come to enjoy the language for what it is. It works seamlessly with HTML/CSS and can provide so much function with little effort put into configuration. Nearly everything I need to be done can be accomplished without frameworks or libraries, maybe just Bootstrap's CSS to make things pretty enough for the end user.

I could see P++ being useful for PHP as a chance at rebranding. PHP horror stories had made me believe it just had to be bad language. If P++ brings all of the good of PHP along with typing and better syntax in general, I believe it would be a much easier sell to devs in a situation like my own.
