Everything is politics, religion is politics, javascript is politics. Anything where disagreement is possible incurs politics. This is why javascript discussions descend into religious debates and also why the premise and conclusions behind your entire essay is garbage.

Google gives me around 275,000 hits for 'Bill Gates is Satan' and 130,000 hits for 'Every time you masterbate, a kitten dies' but I can't vouch for the latter.

Blame the moderators. The guidelines quite clearly state "If you submit a link to a video or pdf, please warn us by appending [video] or [pdf] to the title." However, YCombinator funded websites seem to be exempt.
Re:MySQL v PostgreSQL: Which have you used and why? on Thursday May 08, 2008 @09:55AM (#184506)
> has somewhat unpredictable behavior on complex queries. Including counts.

By default, MyISAM compresses its primary key: http://www.mysqlperformanceblog.com/2006/05/13/to-pack-or-no...

So you get bad performance when the primary key is accessed in descending order: http://bugs.mysql.com/bug.php?id=17847

If this corrupted, you get a different row count when you order by ascending or descending key. I've seen this in the wild. Unfortunately, this possibility has been repeatedly missed by developers: http://bugs.mysql.com/bug.php?id=28542 http://bugs.mysql.com/bug.php?id=28658 http://bugs.mysql.com/bug.php?id=35605

MySQL is a nice bit bucket but I'll continue using Postgres for anything important.

Re:Ask HN: documentation format? on Friday March 14, 2008 @02:36PM (#137017)
http://docutils.sourceforge.net/ is quite nice: A rich set of features, easily extensible by custom directives, Python, and a hell lot of export formats (LaTeX/PDF, HTML, S5 slideshows, ...).

It's really very easy to make an anonymous account on this site. In fact, it is easier than going to bugmenot.com. And the way you did this, a malicious person could come along and delete this story.

We've Been Offered Investment Which Values Our Venture At $1.9 Million - Should We Take It?

We've received a serious unsolicited offer of 1000 pounds (US$1945) for a 0.1% stake in our venture. Should we take it? We don't need the cash. However, the investment is smart money - although with limited contacts. We haven't incorporated. Indeed, we're inclined to decline the offer because we'd have to formalise the paperwork prematurely and this could prejudice further investment. The offer...

I use OpenID and it's frustrating that websites don't accept it. On this website, for example, I was forced to use BugMeNot. Why? I don't like being forced into this position.
Re:Recomendations for cheap IP lawyers? on Friday May 11, 2007 @08:35PM (#21503)
I've good at several lawfirms in and around Boston, but they all seem so expensive, when you look at all the things we need..

Once you get to TOS, Incorporation Papers, IP Forms, NDAs, and the like, it gets to be quite a lot of hours.

Lawyers in the Boston area are typically charging $225-$300 per hour. After you add up the hours, we'll blow through a lot of our savings just -getting ready- to launch..

Is there anything we could do for a better rate? I understand that Lawyers often provide good relationships with VCs and Angels, but for a lot of it, it's grunt work.

We've done our own drafts, but we're worried about gotchas- Maybe there are lawyers who are more comfortable just revising stuff that you've already done?
