Title of a best seller by a respectable author, Nassim Taleb
Speaking as someone who has many friends who owns restaurants - you're speaking outside of your domain knowledge

As of my comment there were 120 comments :)
Great servers DO NOT want to get paid a higher wage from the restaurant instead of tips because they make so much more in tips.

Every article that talks about medical or scientific discoveries should be required to state how long before it can actually benefit people

Other than a land grab and closer proximity to Europe - what does Russia gain from this?
Re:Jim Simons has died on Friday May 10, 2024 @03:11PM (#40322790)
Why would you think it was a bunch of "finance bros"? You can BS your way to the top in such things as Sales because raw intellect and mental ability is not required. The same can be said for many aspects of finance. But you can't just do HFT or Quant because you want to - you actually need skills. Same way I can't BS my way into designing a rocket - you either can or you can't.
Re:How did Ancient Greek music sound? on Thursday May 02, 2024 @12:57PM (#40238452)
Shhh and don't tell anyone about mainland Greece yet to be disturbed by tourism even though it has always been very easily accessible
Re:How did Ancient Greek music sound? on Thursday May 02, 2024 @12:56PM (#40238434)
Crete is not part of Cyclades
Lots of worthless criticism. If you want the latest and greatest buy it. If you are upgrading from an Intel macbook air than get the m3 - who wants to buy last years version
"Avoid 'quick decision' situations"

That's a great way to hear god laugh. Jokes aside - if the quick decision can be "walked back" or is not detrimental if you decide wrong then it doesn't matter and you should probably decide quickly to get through the "maze of life"

Re:Ask HN: How easy is it to become an entrepreneur in 2024? on Sunday February 04, 2024 @09:55AM (#39250640)
You don't need to say "non-entrepreneur" - by default everyone is a non-entrepreneur if you're not an entrepreneur.
Re:Clicks – Physical keyboard for iPhone on Thursday January 04, 2024 @09:59PM (#38875198)
Don't listen to the people on hacker news as they are a very specific niche of iphone users. Your users are those fat chicks with bitch on board bumper stickers who buy bubble tea because they think it's healthy.

What I'm trying to say is it looks great and just iterate!

More accurate to say Smart people are curious - be curious.

Helping other people succeed guarantees nothing for you - people can be selfish - especially in business

Since romantic relationships are often an important aspect of one's life, I would also add: If you're interested in someone go talk to them.

My biggest issue with coat hangers - including this one - is that they are all thin so forget putting heavier shirts, sweaters, and especially jackets on them - they'll stretch out part of the shoulder and you have this visible piece of material sticking out when you put it on.
One time events are different than what used to be everyday, social events.

Also, hiking and skiing are not exactly the most social activities.

"Really good idea" - this reminds me of the south park episode where when the parents list to the children's music they hear poop sounds on top of the track and Randy says he really likes it.
lots of tangents today

Re:Way ahead of it's time: The Remote Lounge NYC on Wednesday July 26, 2023 @06:47AM (#36875520)
Lived by here in the early 2000's - went a couple of times. Was kind of cool! Don't remember when it shut down.
Re:Why Is Everyone Wondering If Apple Will Buy Disney? on Wednesday July 19, 2023 @08:49AM (#36785465)
I think Disney is overvalued. I believe people's eyes get glossed over with this "Wonderful world of disney" spiel. They rely on this legacy portfolio of content and who knows what's going to happen with streaming and movies in the next 5-10-20 years because of this greater tech component that's influencing it.
