Re:We should be more ambitious with the software we build on Saturday October 24, 2026 @08:45PM (#50227051)
Who is “we” here? Every company and individual out there? Do you anticipate a solution to these issues you mentioned that would work to solve all the world’s problems?
Re:Show HN: Jev Plays Pokémon Red on Saturday September 26, 2026 @03:14AM (#49854051)
I also tried to create a “Jev plays Pokémon” but with minimal additional context outside a move history and what is available in memory from the emulator, so no pathfinder, predetermined game path, etc. I can safely say that this experiment failed however, and Jev was not able to even get to Professor Oak’s lab to get a starter.

Props to OP for getting a working version, but it does not seem that this model is capable enough to play Pokémon at this point in time.

This just be a recession indicator

Re:Google Hits 50% IPv6 on Sunday June 21, 2026 @12:42PM (#48620352)
To be fair if Google stopped supporting it that’d be a pretty good incentive for the ISPs to get in line.
Re:Railway GCP Account Suspension Incident Report on Wednesday May 20, 2026 @03:29PM (#48212846)
Crazy considering this was their primary argument against the App Store's revenue share model. Not that they're wrong, but you'd think they would at least be consistent.
If that were the case they would select the ones generated by other models at a similar rate to the ones they generated themselves.
Re:Composer 2 on Thursday March 19, 2026 @05:35PM (#47446558)
To be fair these frontier models have been seriously increasing their pricing as of late. Opus 4.6 requests regularly cost over $5 now, with average requests costing ~$1-2. If Composer is benchmarking better than Opus and costs $0.08 per request that's a win for everyone.

I know people like to hate Composer but competition is a benefit to all of us, and I don't doubt Composer will take it's own chunk of the consumer market.

Re:Generative AI is hollowing out entry-level jobs, study finds on Tuesday September 16, 2025 @01:44PM (#45265396)
I wonder how these findings would hold up if the analysis could control for the widespread corporate strategy of replacing domestic junior roles with dedicated offshore teams?
Re:Genie 3: A new frontier for world models on Wednesday August 06, 2025 @05:29PM (#44818074)
This better be enough of a technological leap for Half Life 3 to come out
Why the Air Force specifically?
There is still an imbalance of power here. The average person doesn't have the means to parse through the mountains of data produced by the entire world, but states and corporations do.

And even if they did, the average person have even less power to do anything about it.

Personally I think posting to Github is the offering part, posting the tool to HN is definitely an invitation for opinions.
But who’s watching rat man?

Sounds like an opportunity for a new JS framework, because nobody wants to write this stuff themselves
Oh my god they killed Kenny!

Any resources for new video game programmers to become more creative?

Hi HN, I'd like to do more games programming as a hobby, but I generally struggle to balance my creativity with also learning games programming concepts (I'm a full time backend SW engineer). I think my biggest issue is that art creation (for assets) is not something I have experience in, and generally game creation tutorials skip this part and include a zip of pre-created assets. Are there any...

Re:Show HN: Flappy Bird and Wordle on Monday February 06, 2023 @11:21PM (#34688727)
One trick is you don't have to use correct words. So once you find a yellow letter you can just repeat it for the next word to get it's location in the word, like 'AAAAA'. Try this for a few attempts and you'll get it (assuming you've played flappy bird a little already)
Re:Ugly Gerry – Gerrymandering font on Thursday January 26, 2023 @12:16AM (#34527948)
I think it’s two things: 1. What you said, politicians have little incentive to give up power on gerrymandering. 2. The American political system is designed to be adversarial, and adding an “independent” agency with that much power ~feels~ like it invites distrust and corruption.
Re:Apple Unveils MacBook Pro Featuring M2 Pro and M2 Max on Tuesday January 17, 2023 @12:53PM (#34415870)
I know its not what you meant, but “are you getting A/B tested or something?” is a pretty great software world roast.
Re:Epochalypse on Saturday January 07, 2023 @01:22AM (#34285732)
I’d guess that it’s because it’s a signed int? So the value can be negative. Probably depends on the library implementation though.
Re:Instagram ads Facebook won't show you (2021) on Wednesday December 07, 2022 @04:22PM (#33900475)
I’d tend to agree. Except for the fact that to create good targeted ads it takes tracking my every click and move. And that this can be sold to parties that I’ve never interacted with nor (actively) consented to having my information.
Agreed but this definitely isn’t in the interest of library maintainers. If they did so it’d mean they are acknowledging all the currently open issues and deciding to do nothing, which would sometimes cause backlash.
Re:Prose.sh – A blog platform for hackers on Sunday July 17, 2022 @08:05PM (#32132907)
I could see this being really useful in conjunction with iOS shortcuts’ “Run Script Over SSH” and “Get Contents of URL” actions.
