Doesn't appear this was intended as an idea to build software from, but a proof on how SQL vs noSQL is really SQL and coSQL.
Re:Ask HN: Why don't we have tags on HN? on Thursday July 13, 2017 @02:05PM (#14763636)
Looks great actually.

For the same reason I leave every community (namely digg and reddit), I'll have to leave this one.

Far too much politics and I get sucked right in. I find myself reading and commenting on stuff that's a complete waste of time and energy.

It's great that HN added "hide" at least. Nice way to quickly remove these politically motivated articles.

Does anyone know how to delete my account here?

edit: Just requested an account over at lobsters, but'll just lurk if I'm denied.

The argument they're making is at one point the drivers were making more money and could afford to buy a new vehicle or whatever. Then because of fare reductions and therefore reductions in pay they're now saddled with debt and can't afford housing.

Yes. We'll go with "dearth of resources." Thanks.

"Americans will die needless deaths"

when they're on long wait lists for procedures because of a glut on resources

when they no longer have access to the high quality care they once had

when there's a greater shortage of quality nurses and doctors because of diminished pay

when innovation is stifled because R&D is funded by the government

> In the meantime, Americans will die needless deaths from not receiving basic healthcare

No, it's the typical appeal to emotion nonsense that got the ACA passed to begin with. Now that's going to fail before it's even completely applied.

First off everyone dies. Who's not receiving healthcare right now that would be ultimately saved by the government?

Secondly let's cut the hyperbole and have a rational conversation about this.

Has anyone used RDS from lambda? Don't want to use Dynamo but perhaps for some key Val store.

And in 20 years there'll be a whole new set of doomsday predictions and this'll be forgotten.

Majority is truly just that, benevolent aid. You want to spin some tall tales conspiracy then let's see some citation on the matter.

Sure American companies benefit, sure there's some fraud, sure some of it is a foreign policy decision in the US best interests. But a lot of good is done.

To Israel it's military spending.

It's not a secret.

Then why must Africa receive millions in aid from the West every single year? Why can't they help themselves?

In 2015, the U.S. provided more than $8 billion in assistance to 47 sub-Saharan countries; and USAID maintains 27 regional and bilateral missions in Africa.

Good excuse to refactor I'm sure.

And probably never getting hired again, at least by any reasonably rational male hiring manager. Too much risk.

Re:TDD did not live up to expectations on Thursday June 29, 2017 @12:10PM (#14664392)
Seems a little arrogant to say most developers don't know how to refactor or do it poorly. Maybe it's true. I really can't say one way or the other because what I see is most devs believe they don't have time to refactor.
> Now the German government is considering legislation that would allow social networks such as Facebook to be fined up to 50 million euros if they don’t remove hate speech and fake news quickly enough.

As an American I can't imagine being arrested for speaking my mind about a race or religion whether it's considered hate speech or not. It's just unfathomable. Thanks to our forefathers for putting free speech on such a pedestal and our government for upholding it for 200+ years.

This can't end well shutting people up like this.

Re:How I learned to code in my 30s on Tuesday June 27, 2017 @06:32PM (#14650150)
> Why should that be noteworthy?

Because there's perceived ageism in this industry, so saying you're just getting started in your 30's is interesting.

Haven't you heard of culling the herd? Meaning, in this case, deliberately killing off weaker brain cells to make the brain as a whole work faster.

Wow. I really expected you were exaggerating but it really is terrible. There's not much square footage why the hell didn't they put in new cabinets at least?

Don't agree with the approach because using a proven solution can be superior and net a simpler code base than rolling your own.

Fyi, by using webpack, couple loaders, babel, etc I net 100s of dependencies just for the build. Ymmv.

Looks like a shame piece for this fellow Justin Caldbeck. Was he given a chance to respond and is that in the article?

Ha. I'm not exactly in the know but this is the first I've ever heard of theinformation.com.

Uh huh.

Paris agreement is non-binding.

China has no obligation for 20 years.

It's not ratified by Congress.

Nothing from agreeing to this was going to affect your descendants other than draining American coffers of billions.

Exactly. More faux outrage.
