Re:Ask HN: How do I speak more at conferences? on Wednesday January 27, 2016 @12:27PM (#10981379)
Prepare some talks on topics that you are pro at and then share them. That way you can send samples to different relevant speaking events.

How do you suppose SoundCloud tracks their listen count? Don't you think they track file downloads whether via their official UI or not?

Also, I'm unaware of how they get paid for traffic. Can you elaborate?

I overlooked this detail and assumed based on your pot title that you were looking for potential programmer hires to use your product. My opinion still stands; farming is a relatively rare occupation in the software industry, marketing or otherwise.

It's one thing to make sure a potential cofound understands your pain point and market, it's another thing to ask the candidate to be part of the market.

Nice story. This point resonates with me: "If you climb a mountain you are sure to have a few missteps along the way. But you keep going. You don’t stop and start over if you trip here or take the wrong path there. You keep going."
Yes, I think that's asking too much in this case. How many farmers do you know that are actively pursuing a programming job?

Any details on what exactly it is and how it's different that existing platforms?
Re:Say Hello to X64 Assembly Part 3 on Friday September 19, 2014 @05:58PM (#8342719)
This is a very well thought statement. I was just thinking this morning how great is to understand low level logic and coding, but when discussing it with a co-worker, it was clear that there was no practical day to day benefit from knowing about the underpinnings of the higher level languages we use.

That said, I am able to better overcome technical challenges when they arise due to my curiosity and passion for the details.

Each business has different profit margins so I'm sure each would have to set a bare minimum price thus the aforementioned "pricing algo".
Re:Lyft: Uber scheduled, canceled 5,000 rides to hassle us on Tuesday August 12, 2014 @12:05PM (#8168386)
Came here to cross post this from reddit, but with a different source: http://money.cnn.com/2014/08/11/technology/uber-fake-ride-re...

This is abhorrent behavior. Here I thought "startups" (if you can call Uber that now) had more room for moral/ethical diligence.

How should Uber be penalized? 10k cancelled rides to their service?

Seems like these services need a more effective way to identify real reservations.

Re:AI, Robotics, and the Future of Jobs on Wednesday August 06, 2014 @07:38PM (#8145500)
This is exactly my point. Creativity is not a mindless endeavor in need of automation. It is the heart of human existence, no matter how finite your world view considers it.
Re:AI, Robotics, and the Future of Jobs on Wednesday August 06, 2014 @04:00PM (#8144530)
The real question that intrigues me is why have a job in the first place? Obviously the current system derived from capitalism requires that we either work or own, but this doesn't make it the right path for mankind.
Re:AI, Robotics, and the Future of Jobs on Wednesday August 06, 2014 @03:58PM (#8144512)
I agree 100%. The idea of automating creativity is ludicrous. Creativity is what being human is all about and the universe we live in is infinitely vast and full of endless paths to explore.
