Yes, recently replaced an LG refrig with that issue. Its second linear compressor in eight years was dying the way the first one had (four years after purchase, with the sympathetic repairman telling us this second compressor was the “fixed” model and should last for quite a few more years), so we bailed on it. Its 1985-vintage Whirlpool predecessor had worked for 32 years, FWIW.
Off-topic, but I hate the use of the word "photo" in the caption under the AI-gen'd image:

Reminiscent of this scene from the 1981 teen-slasher parody,
Student Bodies:
> Announcer: Ladies and gentlemen, in order to achieve an "R" rating today, a motion picture must contain full frontal nudity, graphic violence, or an explicit reference to the sex act. Since this film has none of those, and since research has proven that R-rated films are by far the most popular with the moviegoing public, the producers of this motion picture have asked me to take this opportunity to say "Fuck you."

> it also solves the gaming problem on Mac
Yep, I admit that it's my main use of Linux. My daily driver for everything non-games-related is my 2023 (Apple Silicon) Mac Studio, but for Steam stuff I go to the old Intel iMac and whatever distro I'm running on it at the time.
Yep, mine also is an iMac (mid-2017 model).
Sorry I didn't respond earlier. Mine isn't a T2 Mac. Also, I've actually been doing some distro-hopping in recent days --- switching among Fedora, the Arch-based CachyOS, and the Fedora-based (and very-early-stage) RakuOS --- and the sleep problem has been consistent among all three. I also have tried Debian, and Debian-based distros, in the past and seen the same issue. I have a nagging feeling that it's something really simple but have no idea what.
I've also been frustrated by the whole old-Mac-on-Linux problem with internal speakers, as I've written before:
https://www.brycewray.com/posts/2023/09/sound-reasoning/
It's not just the Apple Silicon Macs, either; I have a 2017-model Intel Mac which runs any number of distros just fine except that sleep just doesn't work right. No amount of keystrokes or mouse-clicks will wake it up if it sleeps.
Turned off my ad blocker and, lo and behold, normal scrolling worked (perhaps it had been hanging on the cookies-related box at the bottom, which didn't appear with ad-blocking on). With the ad blocker, I could scroll only by grabbing the scrollbar; mouse-wheel, PageUp/PageDown, etc. didn't work. Haven't seen this behavior anywhere else lately.
From TFA:

And, of course, this was flagged. So predictable.
Fictitious company names and URLs follow...
I once worked for a U.S.-based company called Doe Products, Inc., which it commonly abbreviated as "DPI." When the web started becoming relevant, DPI hadn't managed to get either doe.com or dpi.com so, instead, it got dpi-doeprducts.com. All of this happened before I arrived and began handling DPI's website-/domains-related stuff. I always chafed at that unwieldy URL, especially due to its often-problematic hyphen, so I was happy when we did manage to get doe.us. However, the execs soon quashed that satisfaction when they told me, no, we can't use that URL because people will think they have to type "doe.us.com" (!?!); and I never managed to convince them otherwise.
There's also MarkEdit[0], which is essentially "TextEdit for Markdown" and is definitely _not_ Electron-based:
> For perspective: at just 4 MB, MarkEdit is much smaller than Electron apps. Handling a 10 MB file with ease puts it ahead of TextKit-based editors. Performance-first editors built with Rust lack native features, while correctness alone rules out editors that rely on regex-based Markdown parsing.

Off-topic, but am curious about why this page doesn't allow scrolling using either a mouse or touchpad unless you're "grabbing" the scrollbar. (At least you can page up and page down with keys, I should add.) Am using a Blink-based browser on macOS, if that matters.
On that particular point, I wondered whether there was supposed to have been a "not" before "cover"; otherwise, it definitely doesn't seem to follow.
Loved that era. Although my main computing back then involved the "Skinny Mac" and (at work) PCs, I also tinkered with eight-bit Ataris. Even got a very bare-bones Atari BASIC program, "Line Deleter," published in the January, 1986, issue of
COMPUTE! Magazine.[0]

As a space travel geek from decades ago, I would have upvoted you for the user name alone. :-)

Highly recommend NetNewsWire, especially if one is already using it on any other Apple device. Recent updates have substantially improved its performance (on both iOS and macOS), so it's worth a second look if you haven't tried it recently.
