Re:US tech stocks see sharp falls over AI cost fears on Friday October 30, 2026 @01:58PM (#50307736)
Not sure the required-login thing is at fault here at least at scale.

I myself do way more searches in "<question> on Reddit" and then just look at the AI generated response from Google Gemini.

Zero clicks.

Re:Lula wins election after final votes tallied on Sunday October 25, 2026 @09:50PM (#50238104)
Brazilian here. President wins by popular vote. Period.

Must win by 50% plus 1 of all valid votes on Round 1. If not, 1st and 2nd most voted go for Round 2 a few weeks later. Then, 50%+1 again of all valid votes.

> But this law may be impossible to comply

How come? If it is an algorithm, change the algorithm. Newsfeed used to be based on timestamp. Then, lots of weights and statistical analysis went into it to show you what the algorithm thinks will drive most engagement.

Can you be more specific on how iOS blocks other browsers? You mean for embedded browser engine in apps?
Would this post get as much attention as it is getting if it wasn't for the "in Rust" in the title?

Author here.

Thanks for sharing the project!

Happy to answer any questions.

There are also some slides available at [1] from the talk at Devoxx Belgium 2026.

Quick, we need a jev-isBoolean(value) so we can code YAML with confidence.
Re:Rust Is Tier-1 Language at Microsoft on Thursday September 10, 2026 @11:08AM (#49645073)
Because it takes time. Even with coding agents, to add the capability. Then, there is the question on whether Rust developers who like to engage with Microsoft tools, would really consider Visual Studio as their IDE, instead of something like VS Code, VS Code Agent Mode, GitHub Copilot App, or GitHub Copilot CLI with simpler editors.

I'd be curious to know whether Rust developers believe Visual Studio is the right place for Microsoft to invest Rust specific coding capabilities.

Re:Grep beats LSP? Why coding agents ignore your fancier tools on Friday September 04, 2026 @12:36AM (#49560575)
What has worked well for me is to have a SKILL that instructs to use the LSP more often than not.

LSP works best when using dependencies that are already compiled locally, but if all source is available, yeah... I still don't have a solid answer on which one is best.

But again, for already compiled dependencies (think Java bytecode), without LSP configs, the agent is likely going to attempt to extract binaries from JAR files, use grep and javap, and potentially attempt to decompile the .class files.

Re:Why do so many tools have JSON config files? on Wednesday September 02, 2026 @02:34PM (#49540445)
TOML is a better format for configuration files IMO, if not for many reasons, primarily because TOML accepts comments.

However, one annoying thing for TOML was the lack of schema, and the reliance on JSON Schema for that. Which I decided to tackle years ago when I started the TOML Schema project. In the past few months I leveraged code agents to take to the finish line and got something compelling: tomlschema.org

Re:Smartphone LED Detects Hidden Cameras with AI on Monday August 31, 2026 @02:49PM (#49513385)
I wonder if it works with smart glasses.
Still, over 3,000 stars so quick? It's just weird.
Honest question, how does this project already has over 3,200 stars on GitHub?

Their video demo was posted 13 hours ago, and it only has 38 views as of the time of this post.

The post on HN is 4 hours ago.

Re:OpenRouter is joining Stripe on Wednesday August 19, 2026 @02:42PM (#49365535)
Interoperability through standards pays off better for customers than integrated solutions, because it pushes integration without vendor lock-in.
Re:How does IKEA come up with names for its products? on Tuesday August 18, 2026 @03:04PM (#49350923)
You know the saying... a "Do not step on the grass" sign only shows up after people start frequently stepping on the grass...
Re:The Amazon Tax on Tuesday August 18, 2026 @11:23AM (#49347040)
"If you’re searching for an air fryer, Amazon already knows quite a bit. They know the best-reviewed, least-returned, best-priced model. The only purpose of the ads is to get you to pick an air fryer that isn’t that one (or for the best air fryer, to keep you on track to buy the one you wanted in the first place). The ads make the search worse."

This is it.

Re:AI;DR (AI; Didn't Read) on Monday August 17, 2026 @05:09PM (#49337673)
I believe I have better context data in my session than someone simply prompting based on hearsay of what they think they know about the task I have at hand.

Also, I may have already started looking into it, but now this other person just wasted money.

Re:AI;DR (AI; Didn't Read) on Monday August 17, 2026 @04:23PM (#49337074)
If a coworker sends me an AI generated report to help on my task, I am more likely to ask them to just send me the prompt and model they used. Let me own the session and steer it however I want.

How does DuckDB compares with PostgreSQL / MariaDB ?

"IntelliJ is for Java, and Java is legacy!"

Probably the author

It is insane that to pause a video on my TV, my kids have to carefully hit a button that also serves the purpose of scrolling up/down/left/right.

We could think that this is a conspiracy from TV manufacturers and streaming platforms, but it's just shrinkflation at its best (aka enshittification) for reduced cost in building remote controllers.

So far, we are still lucky to have alternatives like Universal Remote Controls, but how long will they last?

Just to be clear, a semester here is 3 months only, right?
Re:Retire the Abstractions on Tuesday August 11, 2026 @11:15PM (#49267450)
If I want to not care about implementation details on an era of AI written code, abstraction is exactly what I need.
