Why would this time be any different than the last hundred times?

tags and branches are both just refs to the commit and can be used interchangeably for something like this. tags are not immutable, just in convention.

Is it important to be idiomatic if the project meets its goals around memory safety?

What’s confusing about this is that every gh command is just a wrapper around their API.
not to mention that the government is already bound against using things it buys for unlawful uses. Its a totally redundant clause in a contract that OpenAI is touting to confuse people.

so any package could declare some modules as “use server” and they’d be callable, whether the RSC server owner wanted them to or not? That seems less than ideal.
Re:Advice for New Principal Tech ICs (I.e., Notes to Myself) on Saturday October 25, 2025 @10:37AM (#45704246)
Amazon skipping “staff” and jumping straight to “principal” seems like such title inflation

looking at the query logs for the nighttime period should have made the bug fairly obvious

Re:Executing Cron Scripts Reliably at Scale on Wednesday January 31, 2024 @09:14PM (#39212089)
> we implemented logic to prevent the node from going down at the top of a minute when possible since — given the nature of cron — that is when it is likely that scripts will need to be scheduled to run

Why not smear the start time of the jobs across seconds of that minute to avoid any thundering herd problems? How much functionality relies on a script being invoked at exactly the :00 mark? And if the functionality depends on that exact timing, doesn’t it suggest something is fragile and could be redesigned to be more resilient?

Re:Good DevEx increases productivity. Here is the data on Wednesday January 24, 2024 @09:56PM (#39125742)
This seems like a tautology because what we think of as a good “experience” is something that lets us get our work done quickly. No one ever said a tool had great devex but was hard to get stuff done with.
Are you saying that Google or Meta are not “established”?

Why does every thread about a consumer app company like this turn into off-topic feedback about the product?
I’ve worked at companies where they’ve done a “spring cleaning” like this, I guess no one thought to turn it into a branding pitch and call up the media though
Re:Java 20: A Sneak Peek on the Panama FFM API on Wednesday December 07, 2022 @09:31PM (#33903368)
The commitment from OpenJDK to continue to support the LTS release for a number of years longer than the non-LTS releases is pretty significant to a lot of companies using Java.

Re:Notice of termination of Twitter merger agreement on Saturday July 09, 2022 @09:45AM (#32035027)
This seems like a great example of selection bias if there are blockbuster acquisitions every year.
It also shows how none of our governments seem to care to prevent companies from testing dangerous products on the street with other unwilling drivers
