Re:Air Purifiers as White Noise Machines on Friday October 23, 2026 @03:57PM (#50214484)
Air purifier is gonna use a lot more energy than just a small speaker. The energy cost swamps everything long term

Re:Show HN: Gemini 4 Argon plays StarCraft on Friday October 16, 2026 @11:46AM (#50119859)
why protoss?
Palantir's internal wiki used to have a page that suggested nicotine as a nootropic. I believe people tried it too
I think hn was generally more skeptical of crypto then AI
Re:SynthID Detector on Wednesday October 07, 2026 @10:45AM (#49993585)
Yeah I've been wanting to run a ton of Wikipedia images through the detector to see if fakes snuck in. Doesn't seem to be a practical way to do this. Even Open AIs tool has a low rate limit
Re:EmbeddingGemma 2 on Tuesday October 06, 2026 @04:46PM (#49983855)
why isn't this being compared to siglip2 (also from google)? because that one isn't fully multimodal? or because it's a different org/team?
We could hit the entire planet with nukes. Yeah maybe <1% would survive immediately, but who knows about long term. I think that's close enough.

Re:Growing proof that autonomous cars save lives on Thursday September 10, 2026 @09:07AM (#49643120)
surely you'd have to also control for the kind of driving rideshares do (e.g. local v. highway) to have any real sense.

maybe we could look for insurance rates?

Isn't storj a crypto thing? I don't think they'd want to be involved. I get the sense they are idealists
Also it includes insurance and such that doesn't appear in TC

Re:OpenAI's GPT-6 Astra on ARC-AGI-3 on Friday September 04, 2026 @12:06AM (#49560432)
If you're doing a job you aren't unemployed. Underemployment is measured separately
Re:OpenAI's GPT-6 Astra on ARC-AGI-3 on Friday September 04, 2026 @12:03AM (#49560413)
IQ tests? Very good. But most are in the dataset so it's not very meaningful

Do you want your phone to allocate 4GB to read a mailing list?
yeah that was my understanding. for some reason corn syrup is vilified. the real problem there (as I understand it) is corn subsidies.
Is there evidence supporting the idea that sugar is more satiating? My understanding was that they were equally unhealthy
