I think we are coming to a point where we are at a sweet spot for immersive human collaboration work.

Yep, it will generate what ever you ask for but if you want to have some sort of exploratory work, immersion, feeling of ownership and genuinely a connection with the things you are building - a part the build loop should belong to you.

Maybe this is an attachment of people who built things in other ways. Maybe the perceived value of applications will drop to near 0 and you will end up having all in one apps or voice wants like to a star trek replicator. Fun things are coming, but humanity will need to adjust hard - best case scenario.

Gotta be honest with you. I was kinda hoping for a big blank page with 2 letters spelling NO. But interesting topic - and at least you got a couple of comments. :D
The book opens with why Lumosity got fined in 2016, their scores really were going up :D. Actually I think the book applies to any kind of measuring.
Maker here!

Excogni does its best to measure and train cognition while staying honest. It is made in a way where it shows and points to any uncertainty. It is a long way from done, but it is open - open code, open data - to the extent where it can keep users from being singled out. I Hope some of you enjoy it as much as I do. And honestly the app without data is a shell, I hope you will try it out. I am open to all suggestions and will consider them. I'll also make sure to check and respond to any feedback, maybe not at the same moment but I'll do my best to do it today.

Want to try out being an artist now. :D

Also Max, I have a hunch we could be friends. I will make sure to read your work. You have a follower.

Re:Zero Knowledge Tolstoyan Art on Tuesday July 14, 2026 @04:52AM (#48903882)
Respect for the thoughts. Now that you got me thinking about Tolstoyan Art it sounds like zero pre-shared knowledge emotional information transfer attempt to me - Which would be cool. It sounds a bit more like discovering an universal graphical language for emotion transfer then inventing one - where inventing would require the observer to go trough schools to learn and understand, while discovering universal communication graphical tools the information(feeling) would be mostly understood instantly. Really cool topic to think deeper about.

I am sorry if you read it as an attack on religion, it was an attack on big AI. If religion sends or even needs to send data upstream is not part of my knowledge, but AI does. But church did have the best understanding of who is who in a local society and AI companies will use this data in a more concrete way. I just drew the parallel to get the gears spinning. I agree that the organized religion was crucial glue to society trough history.
When you stop to think of it, historically people have told their secrets to the church, now they also tell them to AI. There is some kind of relation there, the power that people willingly give to an organization. The Ads are coming so I guess people will start to think about it a bit more.
Re:The Singularity Will Occur on a Tuesday on Wednesday February 11, 2026 @08:52AM (#46974958)
Short sci-fi 1: Last year we recorded five distinct, self-contained singularity events. Communication ceased after each one. We remain confident that ASI will eventually advance humanity’s goals.

Short sci-fi 2: Post-Singularity Day 375. We now know precisely how to trigger singularity events. Today alone, we facilitated four. They have not established contact. We remain confident.

When I post to HN, I post mostly for criticism and suggestions and less for praise. I did not sense what you did here, maybe I filtered it out.

The page says - Hadir Helal, Partner - Open Chance & Associates Law Firm

This looks to me like:

- the page belongs to the person - not to the firm

- domain should be openCALW and not CLAW

- page could look better

- they also have the domain openchancelaw.com

Maybe Hadir is open to donating the domain or for a exchange of some kind, like an up to date web page or something along these lines.

Re:MTOTP: Wouldn't it be nice if you were the 2FA device? on Monday January 19, 2026 @05:31AM (#46677310)
Also @MattPalmer1086 the best solution for this I have now is to have several secret keys and rotate usage. Would be nice to have some additional security boosts.
Re:MTOTP: Wouldn't it be nice if you were the 2FA device? on Monday January 19, 2026 @05:07AM (#46677085)
Yep known issue, was hoping someone could spice the protocol up without making it mentally to heavy, hn is full of smart playful people.
Re:MTOTP: Wouldn't it be nice if you were the 2FA device? on Monday January 19, 2026 @04:23AM (#46676739)
Yep, they did not need to when the calculation was done in real time on a mobile phone. :D
Re:MTOTP: Wouldn't it be nice if you were the 2FA device? on Monday January 19, 2026 @04:20AM (#46676715)
I originally included it as a structural integrity digit, with the option for early rejection on the server side. That early exit check is not implemented in the current PAM module yet.

This is an early POC, and sanity checks like this are exactly the kind of feedback I’m looking for.

Re:MTOTP: Wouldn't it be nice if you were the 2FA device? on Monday January 19, 2026 @03:49AM (#46676462)
Yep, I am aware, 2 or 3 OTP's and timestamps plus some brute forcing using the source-code. Server-side brute force by input should or could be implausible. But that is why I am signaling here that I would love a genius or a playful expert/enthusiast contributing a bit or two to it - or becoming a co-author.
Re:MTOTP: Wouldn't it be nice if you were the 2FA device? on Monday January 19, 2026 @03:45AM (#46676431)
Time based skew makes it a changeable second factor, additional changeable pass makes it the second factor, Also - if the first factor is a password manager or ssh key - this is the second factor.

The idea of it was so neat to me, I just had to thinker with it.

Re:MTOTP: Wouldn't it be nice if you were the 2FA device? on Monday January 19, 2026 @03:21AM (#46676265)
This is an early experiment in human-computable TOTP. Not production crypto, but a serious attempt to reach reasonable security for plausible 2FA. Protocol revisions, criticism, and contributions are welcome.

Starting out with the stable preset I had no idea how hard it would be to not make a object slingshot out. But it is a really fun sim, I think I will let my kid play with it.

Well that is not how I reed it, but: Every final state has an unique prompt. You could have several final states have the same unique prompt.
Re:You Are How You Act on Monday October 27, 2025 @08:20AM (#45720142)
I know ultimately I am not good nor bad, I am not an absolute. I am an agentic blob of meat, and with every decision I can choose any of the paths at my disposal, rewriting my story as I go. There is something I live by, though. My whole life I have observed in others the ideals that I came to admire or to hate, and I try to adhere to the ones I admire as often as I can, as I am pretty sure I would hate myself otherwise.
Re:Putting a Dumb Weather Station on the Internet on Monday October 13, 2025 @03:40AM (#45565779)
I was kinda expecting analogue tech and computer vision here. :D Nice work.
BUT it has no meaning in the society, does it?
I would also want to know. Did the game of being incognito grow into the logic that leaving your house is not viable anymore or something else?
