Working for a startup? You're getting screwed

I worked for a startup. When I graduated from Stanford, I joined two Harvard Business School grads to start a company that later raised millions in funding. All good. Problem? They ended up screwing me over and taking my shares. Here's what it is really like working for a startup. You're going to have to work over 100 hours a week, and you'll think that you're going to be rich. You'll hope for...

Stackoverlow sucks so I use chat GPT instead

I feel like the stack overflow user base is not welcoming. They close questions even though these questions are valid. I decided to use chat gpt instead and I’ve had great results. If you are having trouble with stackoverflow, use chat GPT. Avoid the harassment you’ll get on the stackoverflow platform.

Why are customers hard to deal with?

I run a coaching business and it’s been very hard dealing with customers. I had a chat session with one today and he asked the stupidest questions ever and rated the chat bad at the end after I said that I’m sorry I don’t understand his question. He then cancelled his membership. I feel like users are hard to deal with. First we’re giving them unbeatable prices and all they want is free. We...

Re:Stackoverflow Sucks on Friday March 17, 2023 @06:47PM (#35203915)
So if you don’t like or want to help people or have the patience to do so, why do you use a website like stack overflow? Not everyone is as smart or at the same level as you.

Stackoverflow Sucks

I asked the following question on stackoverflow about dark modeI'm trying to implement dark mode in my IOS app. Is dark mode simply changing the background to black and the text to white? I'm using a webview.People immediately closed the question. I’m trying to implement dark mode in iOS app and want to make sure I’m getting the styling correct. I might be a newbie but it’s not fair that people...

Why do colleagues talk behind each other's backs?

I've been working with a colleague trying to understand his code. He wrote the code. It's very complicated and not well documented. Whenever I go to him to ask him questions about his code, he goes to my manager and tells him that I'm annoying him. Why do colleagues do that? Do they get brownie points by reporting to the manager?

What to do when free trials don’t work?

I run a business summary app with subscription prices of $50/year and $6.99/month. Unfortunately, some people sign up for the free trial that I offer but they use fake cards. So after 7 days the charge doesn’t go through. What can I do about this? I’m using stripe and Nodejs. It’s really frustrating because customers only want free. You try to charge but they insist on a free trial and when you...

Re:What Harvard doesn't teach you on Saturday December 31, 2022 @08:17AM (#34196178)
I disagree. I think College should equip you with the soft skills you need to succeed no matter what the degree. Computer science grads need to know how to negotiate their salaries and engage in technical communication.

Signs that you’re in a toxic work situation

When I graduated from Harvard, I started working at a company. At first, my colleagues seemed really nice. The CEO appeared charming. There were some red flags in the beginning like how he talked about screwing over other people to get ahead, but I ignored that because I was naive and accepted his offer to join the company. Here are four things you should look for when joining a company: - have...

Racism at a Venture Backed Startup

When I was 21, I started a company with two Harvard business school students. We got into an accelerator. I worked as the technical cofounder for three months until we raised millions of dollars from top venture capitalists. During that time, the CEO had me work 100 hours a week building features for the company. On the first day of work, he called me a crackpot. I’m a black woman. He...
