Re:Koa – Next generation web framework for Node.js on Friday January 10, 2025 @08:03AM (#42655261)
I'm not sure "next generation framework" and "requires Node v12 for ES2015 and async function support" belong on the same landing page
This is so clearly written by ChatGPT, as are a few other comments in your history

@Filligree I updated my comment with the original issue text. Lucky I had it saved

I just wrote a GitHub issue outlining some questions I have about this project. I presume will get deleted soon so I'm posting here:

https://github.com/openchatai/OpenChat/issues/43

Edit: It was deleted so I'll post here in case anyone ever comes across this thread.

I joined the Discord to ask about the legitimacy of the project and was immediately banned. Here are some red flags I noticed, make your own mind up:

Stolen code: The entire /llm-server Next.js app is directly stolen, without attribution, from @mayooear's project mayooear/gpt4-pdf-chatbot-langchain[1]. I was originally suspicious because I couldn't figure out why you would use Next.js to make an API-only app with no React code at all (despite still having PostCSS[2] and Tailwind[3] config files). If you don't believe me compare @mayooear's /pages/api/chat.ts[4] with @gharbat's /pages/api/chat.ts[5]

Bad practise: Stolen or otherwise, having an _API-only Next.js_ app is a terrible choice and presumably made because using an existing project means not having to write all of the mission critical LLM ingestion and interaction. Not understanding how to write, nor even how to read, the API that handles the mission critical tasks of your service is huge red flag.

The code that _was_ (presumably) written by @gharbat is of extremely questionable quality for an app that's currently accepting users.

- Why is there inline styles and Tailwind classes together?[6]

- Why does the same style get copy/pasted in every[7], single[8], settings[9], page? It doesn't even appear to do anything and looks to be from some something else.

- Why is there so much copy/pasting of snippets instead of using loops or reusable components?[10]

Unproven leadership: I was gonna let this one slide but I became suspicious after I was banned.

I asked why @gharbat's GitHub contribution graph is completely empty (for the past year excluding the past two weeks), and why he has no pinned repos or any original ones. After I was banned his contribution graph was conveniently backfilled minutes later with private contributions.

Also, since I was banned from the Discord the link[11] no longer works.

Each of these things in isolation is not a crime but the sum of them suggests a project leader with questionable technical ability, ethics, and decision making. These are paramount to a service which is ingesting potentially sensitive documents, storing them and sending them to a third party service.
