Fellow conservative here. Teddy Roosevelt had a balanced take on capitalism vs the rights of workers in one of his famous speeches. It "failed" at the time, but a lot of the principles ended up catching on: http://www.theodore-roosevelt.com/images/research/speeches/t...

(Love the Chesterton quote BTW)

AMEN

Different strokes for different folks, I guess. Life is short enough, I might as well refresh the wardrobe every now and then. Plus I'm helping the economy! A winning strategy all around.

Re:Hundreds of thousands of people read novels on Instagram on Saturday October 05, 2019 @06:02PM (#21168263)
There's no way 300000 people are actually reading entire books this way. Probably not even 3000. They're just clicking/swiping to get thru their entire stories feed, and these just happen to be in the mix.
I also made a newsmap.jp clone: https://news.brade.zone/

Used to be a bit better when google news told you how many articles existed per story (leading to more meaningful size differences), but it still gets the job done I guess.

Re:Hey advertisers, track this on Sunday June 30, 2019 @11:15PM (#20322204)
Mozilla is on fire lately, this is Trump level trolling & I love it
Re:PHP in 2019 on Thursday May 23, 2019 @05:22PM (#19996115)
Personally I'm a fan of the Phalcon framework. It's also structured similarly to Laravel/Cake/Rails but is compiled into a PHP module and thus runs super fast by comparison. PHP has certainly improved with the 7.x line so I'm happy to continue using it.
Re:Mental Models I Find Repeatedly Useful (2016) on Wednesday January 02, 2019 @05:17PM (#18810848)
He finds 189 different models to be "repeatedly useful"? Hmmmm...

Re:Interactive Vim tutorial on Friday October 06, 2017 @05:34PM (#15420657)
"Mode confusion is a feature, not a bug." Just one reason why vim is the most overrated POS of all time.
Re:Git git git git git on Saturday September 30, 2017 @02:16PM (#15374187)
Why type "git" and walk away? Seems like an ultra edge case that deserves whatever ill comes from it.
Re:Text-only CNN on Tuesday September 19, 2017 @11:59PM (#15290716)
I made this thingie based on Google News and the design of Newsmap: http://news.bradezone.com/

It's one of my few side projects I use every day.

Re:Please Make Google AMP Optional on Tuesday June 20, 2017 @11:17PM (#14600397)
Google AMP is the devil and I've long since switched to DuckDuckGo as my search engine on mobile. The thing I hate most about ANY technology is when they think they know what I want more than I do.
Re:App.net is shutting down on Friday January 20, 2017 @10:43PM (#13448622)
Doomed to fail from the beginning. Horrible name which was leeched from Microsoft, and Twitter was clearly already so far ahead. AND THEY WANT ME TO PAY?
Re:Tech Jobs, Cheaper Housing: The New Silicon Cities on Saturday November 12, 2016 @08:37PM (#12941331)
Couldn't read article b/c of paywall, but I gotta put in a good word for Greenville SC, where I currently live. It's been popping up on a lot of "cool cities" lists recently, and rightfully so. Great & growing tech scene. I personally work for a medical start-up & could be living anywhere, but right now I'm content to be in "G-Vegas" =]
Re:Show HN: An Alternative Web Interface for YouTube on Saturday July 16, 2016 @05:58PM (#12108036)
Really dislike how titles are truncated after a fairly small number of words. (I did a search for "on cinema" which is a comedy web series, and almost none of the results showed a full title.) There seems to be no reason not to simply let the titles wrap. Who cares if some result boxes are bigger than others? Anyway, a potentially useful tool if this is corrected.

Stop getting on everyone's case. Lighten up & learn how to have fun.
Re:Write like you talk on Sunday November 01, 2015 @11:06AM (#10486792)
I couldn't disagree with this more.
Re:Ask HN: Books with a high signal to noise ratio? on Thursday August 20, 2015 @02:47PM (#10093811)
The Will to Believe, by William James
I've always enjoyed Newsmap.jp, but it uses Flash, is kinda slow, and seems out of sync with what actually appears on Google News. So I built a super-fast version that uses D3.js for data viz. Hope you enjoy!
Re:The Zero-Armed Bandit on Tuesday June 23, 2015 @05:02PM (#9767775)
Thanks! Why would someone think I want to read a novel-length article about this?

Re:elgooG on Wednesday April 01, 2015 @10:43AM (#9303964)
Shouldn't it be moc.elgoog ?
Re:Using the wrong dictionary on Saturday May 24, 2014 @09:20PM (#7795091)
I hate to point this out, but given the theme of your essay, you might want to fix the phrase "you get it's first known appearance in the language" by removing a certain troublesome apostrophe.
