Re:Tesla upgrading Model S/X motors to permanent magnets on Saturday April 06, 2019 @07:57AM (#19590341)
Front motors will remain induction, as is in the AWD and Performance Model 3's. Only the rear motor will change.

Torque Ripple is only an issue on the single motor Model 3s.

The WSJ 'reeks of desperation', and the New York Post.

NewsCorp should be given the corporate death penalty.

I wonder if there is any models exploring the possibility that our system is uncommon due to 2 systems merging? IOW, Sol ejected a companion star and assimilated the planets from the other.
My P3D will arrive in 2-4 months -- very excited for the future of transportation, and an end to gasoline/diesel cars. 100 years is a long time without disruption, and couldn't come soon enough.

But I love the seeing all the hate here, I wonder if people at the turn of the century reacted the same way when their horse drawn carriages were disrupted.

So much insecurity in these comments. Hilarious. I hope you didn't buy into the shorts thesis.

Doesn't look like your typical anything to me.

Re:What is Enlightenment? (1784) on Sunday June 10, 2018 @11:29AM (#17278545)
It is simply being fully awake. We take our consciousness for granted, but in reality, we are sleep-walking the majority of our waking lives. Reacting, not Acting.

It is a wakefulness that is universal, I would image another species of intelligent beings also existing with full knowledge and acceptance of existence, be they organic or digital. It is not a human quality, but something much more.

The satellites will be meshed over 83 orbital planes starting around 1100km up. The satellites will connect to the farthest satellite it can see that makes the shortest path to the egress. So 2~3 hops verse a datacenter hops to the fiber ingress..then out the fiber across the atlantic.
This is monumental - I claim every major advance in communication technology immediately precedes a major progress for society.

This will make the 'Internet' truly global and ubiquitous.

So excited for the developing world.

Change via Destruction is much different than change via Cohesion.

And now we have the Chaotic President, thanks, Bannon.

The biggest difference is Bannon wants to break society to that it can be remade as he wants. Classic villain methodology, where the ends justify the means. Creating and exploiting divisions in society, damaging democratic institutions, so that the Government collapses and Democracy along with it. To be replaced with 'his' vision for this country. That is evil and treasonous.

If you use the Stelliferous Era [From 10^6 (1 million) years to 10^14 (100 trillion) years after the Big Bang. --wikipedia] as a meaningful period we are still at the very beginning, less than 0.0138% through.

Was interested to see how many posts were going to discuss the possibility of ban following Thailand. Not One.

Is this not a real and probably outcome?

Re:Send money with Gmail on Wednesday May 15, 2013 @05:44PM (#5715182)
I want to make use of this sooner rather than later. Is the rollout completely random or determined by some other meaningful factor. Lets say I connect my bank account with Google Wallet now, would that put me in line above someone without a bank account associated with their Google Wallet?

Re:Petition: require free access to publicly-funded research on Sunday January 13, 2013 @11:14PM (#5053257)
Back when I was much younger (CDROMs had just become accessible with read speeds of 150Kb/s) I had an idea to publish volumes of case law on a CDROM. After seeing no technical reason why the idea couldn't work I hit a brick wall. Turns out the case law is free, but the pagination is copyright. Case Law is cited by the page number and without that common 'index' the citations are meaningless. At that time I was convinced that things are broken to the advantage of those who profit/monopolize a product or service. This was in the late 80's, and my drive to disrupt didn't exist.

I would like to see a major player accept bitcoins as a method of payment.

Just imagine for a moment, Google accepting bitcoins as floating currency, to be used in its Google Play service, or with its Android devices with NFC enabled Google Wallet. That would blur the line between digital currency and digital/real goods and services.

I'm not in the mood to rant on about Facebook, but I must say Facebook allows this to happen. If it didn't it wouldn't.

Facebook gives users the illusion of control and will only extend that illusion when someone makes a loud fuss (or a lawsuit).

When Zuckerberg states that Facebook has a hacking culture, I think he meant social engineering.

Re:TSA Pressures Mainstream Media Not To Cover Story on Thursday March 08, 2012 @08:29PM (#3682507)
Yes, that is basically what I suggested, the material (film) would just drape over the backscatter plate. The resultant image (without a subject) would resemble a black / not so black checkerboard pattern.

The image appears to be a negative relative to the amount of xrays reflected back to the xray source so the additional material would simply have to be slightly less reflective (more absorbent) than the backscatter plate.

Re:TSA Pressures Mainstream Media Not To Cover Story on Thursday March 08, 2012 @03:04PM (#3681328)
Overlay a thin layer of material over the metal plate (the dark/black region in the images) that has a regular repeating pattern (think checkerboard) that shows objects suspended beyond the body's silhouette.

Problem solved.

Re:The Socratic Method: Teaching by Asking Instead of by Telling on Saturday February 11, 2012 @08:59AM (#3579236)
It is also a wonderful way to teach your own children, and more importantly discuss issues that frustrate them.

Spitting out answers without having an question makes the answer a useless fact. Understanding is acquired. Understanding can never be forgotten.

I would never have gotten through my teenage daughter's high school years without it. I am a single father so relying on other traditional methods don't work as well as reasoning directly.

She earned a full scholarship to Dartmouth, was a Intel Semifinalist (genetic research), and is now studying Biology with a course concentration in Neuroscience.

I only taught her how to think about things, never facts.
