I don't see how this can work even in theory. The shape of the platform always gets deeply ingrained in the behavior and even semantics of the users using it. Having radically different UIs on top of existing systems that other users might or might not see the same is fraught.
Re:Life with Down Syndrome on Tuesday November 03, 2026 @08:51AM (#50351971)
> But because he has Down syndrome, someone told him he’s different.

Down Syndrome is a quite serious genetic abnormality, pretending it's not with silly statements like "someone told him he's different" is absurd.

I'd really like something more out of field in this comparison. I'm using Elm a lot, and find Claude absolutely amazing at it.
The cover page for The Three Body Problem is from some other author than the one recommended.
Re:Radiation Map of the World on Sunday November 01, 2026 @11:30PM (#50333124)
Germans are particularly paranoid about nuclear power, that's why they shut down nuclear reactors during an energy crisis. Ironically this meant using coal which spreads far more radioactive material into the air than their nuclear power plants.
Because in the linux situation, you wouldn't get such an update automatically anyway so it'd be worse?
Not macOS, but XCode dev tools. Still, it is Apple that ships them for sure.
It's funny. When Apple goes in and changes peoples systems deeply without consent then it's Apple being evil. When they don't, it's Apple being evil. Heads I win, tails you lose.
There's only been one nation that has been attacked like this and then responded with military action: USA. And they didn't see any sanctions, in fact, many western countries sent troops to help them. I think the evidence is exactly the opposite of your claim.

It is, isn't it?

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Grokipedia#:~:text=that%20arti... It literally states itself on the frontpage that it's bad.

Funny though, as that admission of error makes it more reliable than if it tried to hide this fact.

No, the extraordinary claim is that women can compete at the highest level with men at the highest level. In any sport.
Re:Websites Should Be Printable on Monday October 26, 2026 @09:13AM (#50243051)
You might be able to fix this with a few simple print CSS rules though.
Re:Websites Should Be Printable on Monday October 26, 2026 @09:12AM (#50243036)
You might be discounting the electricity and battery wear on devices down to zero, and inflating the cost of prints in your mind. Paper is EXTREMELY cheap and efficient.
Re:Websites Should Be Printable on Monday October 26, 2026 @09:10AM (#50243007)
There's black-on-black text for me for `onlyprint`.

I saw it immediately :P
Re:The Fall of Scientific American on Monday October 26, 2026 @06:56AM (#50241806)
I think it's pretty clear that the onus of showing evidence is on the one with the extraordinary claim.
Re:The Fall of Scientific American on Monday October 26, 2026 @02:49AM (#50240000)
Even so... in ultra-endurance sports, do women actually dominate? I'm willing to believe it, but not without some statistics.

The quote is accurate and stupid. The emperor is naked, we can all see it.
Re:We should be more ambitious with the software we build on Sunday October 25, 2026 @03:41AM (#50229215)
Because it can cut their total time by double digit percentages?

Both your comments there seem to latch on to a detail and miss the context totally. Ambition scales with the number of "small" things you can get done too.

Re:Apple Security Research Device on Saturday October 24, 2026 @07:45AM (#50220367)
You need to have a stronger argument than "it has never existed and doesn't exist now, but it MIGHT exist IN THEORY". That's an enormously weak argument. Borderline dishonest really.
Re:GitLab CVSS 10.0 Integer Overflow issue on Thursday October 22, 2026 @03:46AM (#50192427)
"Can hold"? Meaning the attacker needs push access to a public repo?
Re:Google's Rust Style Guide on Thursday October 22, 2026 @03:34AM (#50192360)
Having (hobby) worked with ObjectiveC/Cocoa and then later in Swift, I must say that although NSString looks ugly, it's glorious when it comes to trying to search for anything compared to String.
Maybe. Except "organizing a peaceful protest" is a question of intent, not of consequences. The total destruction of Paris and the curious case of Jewish stores being targeted while muslim owned stores being protected by the following mobs is a great example. The people who started the protests? Naive students. The people who actually showed up? Different people. Very different.

Just call it like it was: Chrome. It was Chrome that didn't move. We can all see the graph :P

Re:Maybe There Was an Egg Cartel After All on Tuesday October 20, 2026 @09:18AM (#50165959)
What are those other qualities? And how would we foster them?

We've tried communism. That ends up with millions starving, artists and scientists brutally murdered, and human flourishing basically being utterly destroyed PLUS all wealth being destroyed. That's what communists need to concede.

Re:Maybe There Was an Egg Cartel After All on Tuesday October 20, 2026 @09:16AM (#50165928)
Yea people report that. And then you let them go to Ghana for a week and you'll see their perspective shift real fast. That people have no historical perspective isn't an argument against capitalism, it's an argument for education. And the thing with education is that it's done by the state. So really it's the state that is failing capitalism, not the other way around.
Re:Maybe There Was an Egg Cartel After All on Tuesday October 20, 2026 @09:13AM (#50165888)
> This of course ignores the fact that large scale protest in the US attracts police beatings and widespread use of pain compliance techniques if it isn't presented as family friendly.

That's largely a consequence of police being badly trained though. See stuff like Gracie Breakdown for a small glimpse of how horribly badly trained. Now, the people who complain about the violence are also the people who scream defund the police and want to ban body weight restraint, leading to cops only having ultra violence left as a tool. It's a pretty bad downward spiral of stupid.
