A different approach, but this may be worth a look from the emotional perspective, at least.

Re:FT: Facebook sues German StudiVZ on Saturday July 19, 2008 @09:24AM (#250639)
Hysterical.

The Samwer brothers funded StudiVz and sold it for > 85 million Euros.

With the proceeds of the sale, they then invested in Facebook.

Facebook then sues StudiVz.

What about the Chinese and Russian clones?

Linkedin and Xing both charge for premium service.

Badoo has an optional charge as well.

The second round of funding was from accel and jim breyer.

He cashed out ~ $1 million, according to Sarah Lacy's book which she interviewed him for.

Seems like facebook is going through the trough of disillusionment of the hype cycle. I'm sure last year it could do no wrong.

Did Zuckerberg pull some douche moves or was he savvy? Would you have acted similarly?

Re:Andrew Chen: Has the Facebook platform hit its peak? on Tuesday May 06, 2008 @02:24PM (#182675)
it's a subtle and effective form of marketing. I don't have a problem with it.
Re:Xobni - wouldn't get out of bed for $20m on Friday May 02, 2008 @05:48AM (#179344)
He cropped his photo, which was a good move.

Can we concentrate on the merits of his argument this time?

Re:Anybody not in any social networks? on Wednesday April 30, 2008 @08:37AM (#177440)
social networks focused on entertainment will have a limited shelf life, as the tend to focus on short term attention and on teens.

Linkedin is a slightly different case. It is like a useful business directory.

The next wave will be vertical SN's.(few billion dollar ideas there), and networks with a strong mobile component.

I have started to dump all my entertainment focused social networks. I keep an account on facebook, but only use it to keep track of people. I hate their stupid applications.

Re:Matt Maroon: The Anti-Social Graph on Tuesday April 22, 2008 @03:50AM (#170391)
More classic MM haterade fuelled ranting. keep swigging. (with credit to aston)

But I like the article a lot. Facebook now feels like the warm up to something greater. (and probably smaller)

The identity thing is no longer an advantage for them since they opened up beyond schools and coroporates. It is socially engineered toward real identities, but that's all.
