Hell yeah. What instrument?
Re:VSCode's SSH Agent Is Bananas (2025) on Thursday September 24, 2026 @12:25AM (#49826239)
I have looked for mosh support for a while and not found anything. It would drastically improve the connection experience in VSCode. My terminals never disconnect anymore, but the Code popups about your sessions needing to be restarted has drastically reduced my usage.
They let you in and keep your property. I've never had an issue at a border, but I still keep my devices encrypted and powered off when crossing.
Re:The August 17 outage, and the work ahead on Sunday August 23, 2026 @06:48PM (#49413362)
I agree for personal projects, do you still think buying hardware makes sense for business use case at the current time?
I have seen phrases with "earns its keep" a lot when comparing different algorithms and tradeoffs. "GLM-5.2 cost $21.90, worked overnight as instructed, and earned its keep twice."
Re:We must not grant AI agents legal personhood on Sunday August 23, 2026 @03:47PM (#49411899)
I always assumed this was negotiated ahead of time with the county where they are operating, and police officers educated on what to do.

It used to be, and buying a few servers was a cheap way to get off the cloud (if you can manage them efficiently). But with RAM and other costs these days... I've had to rethink it a lot.
Re:Ask HN: GitHub employees what's going on? Why? on Tuesday August 18, 2026 @02:59PM (#49350853)
It certainly looks at the commit history more than I ever have. I find it quite cool when it points out interesting hints from the history.
Same place (and only place) I've driven one. Easy stick shift, a bit underpowered for the more mountainous highways, but it was a good ride.
Re:GrapheneOS has been ported to Android 17 on Tuesday June 16, 2026 @06:35PM (#48563207)
Ebay? A friend to ship it? I agree on the de-google part but putting graphene on a used pixel is aligned!
Re:Ask HN: Is Claude Opus 4.8 broken? on Saturday May 30, 2026 @04:25PM (#48340271)
Ended up here with the same problem, 200k output tokens burned on these errors after one prompt!
Is this any different than current search ads (as far as people ignoring them)? I think this is a lot better for Google. It's always at the top of the page, harder to block with an adblocker, possibly more trusted (we'll see...)
That's all correct, and nobody seems to care. Nobody is ever going to improve the system, and us law abiding citizens are left with the consequences.
Re:Removing the modem and GPS from my 2024 RAV4 hybrid on Thursday May 14, 2026 @09:52PM (#48143586)
I've been saying this for years! I agree.
I frequently buy project car stuff on Ebay. You can find OE stuff with the part numbers scratched off that must have "fallen off the assembly line" pretty easily. Easily a few items per month between that and computer parts!
Illegal is a strong term here. While the wiki link you included indicates there might be some permitting nuances, I've seen nothing claiming the power is "illegal."
Re:How Monero's proof of work works on Monday May 04, 2026 @04:24PM (#48014472)
How can you have proof of work without consuming large amounts of power?
Re: on Friday December 26, 2025 @09:44AM (#46392450)
Great work! I really like the interface here, I think you put a lot of taste into the way this all came together. It's quite hard (appropriately so!) I would love to see a experienced structural biologist go at this.

Just set it to the "Efficient" tone, let's hope there's less pedantic encouragement of the projects I'm tackling, and less emoji usage.
If you're already down there, set up some geothermal!
Re:How I bypassed Amazon's Kindle web DRM on Thursday October 16, 2025 @05:29PM (#45610898)
This is a beautiful solution to a tedious problem that shouldn't exist in the first place! Great work.
You are an absolute legend, nice work!
Re:How I bypassed Amazon's Kindle web DRM on Thursday October 16, 2025 @05:27PM (#45610874)
Comics need a full "image" for the page, so this is unlikely to work. Can you inspect the requests and see what you get?

Or to the author: what happens to images in the ebook?

"Good" TVs are so cheap these days, that premium wouldn't be acceptable in my mind. The fix the other posters mention about banning it from the internet and just using HDMI works well enough for me.
Buy the ebook, then download a beautiful DRM-free and guilt-free version from Anna's Archive? win-win.
Damn, that's an impressive obfuscation and debugging. If you get around to releasing it I would be interested.
