Re:Ask HN: Who is hiring? (September 2026) on Tuesday September 01, 2026 @05:51PM (#49528737)
Attentive | Senior and Staff Software Engineers | NYC | Hybrid (Tues–Thurs in office) | Full-time

I’m hiring two engineers for Attentive’s List Growth team: one Senior and one Staff. We build the signup experiences that collect email addresses and phone numbers for brands using Attentive. It’s a high-scale, top-of-funnel product used across billions of site visits.

Both roles are full-stack but backend leaning. Our backend is primarily Java/Kotlin and Spring Boot on AWS and Kubernetes; the frontend is React and TypeScript. The work includes distributed systems, APIs, experimentation infrastructure, and customer-facing product development.

The whole team is based in NYC and works together in the office Tuesday through Thursday. The Senior range is $170k–$230k; Staff is $205k–$275k, plus equity and benefits.

Staff: https://job-boards.greenhouse.io/attentive/jobs/4301174009

I’m the hiring manager... feel free to apply directly or email me at [email protected] if you have questions.

Lots of famous historical figures walked. Darwin, Jefferson, Nietzsche, Dickens, Thoreau. More recently (obviously): Jobs.

I wrote a small piece a several years ago on it but have found walking immensely helpful in my debugging efforts. And there's so much research that backs it up.

>Seems like people will probably make improvements on the algorithmic side to these things

I feel like this is an understatement. Improvements in compilers and hardware have made software developers incredibly lazy.

That actually blows my mind when I think about the lifestyles I see walking around the West Village every day.

I like this take. Personally, I know that I'd _for sure_ take a job with a greater amount of pay, benefits, and work-life balance if I was going to be "down-leveled". Heck, if I'm down-leveled and being paid more, that likely means I'm working with more skilled engineers.
Re:In defense of the IPO, and how to improve it on Saturday August 29, 2020 @12:38AM (#24313583)
I've always been confused by DPOs. Isn't it essentially a money-grab by initial investors waiting to cash out if you don't need the capital infused by the IPO?
