Re:I hate packaging my software for Linux on Wednesday August 12, 2026 @08:21AM (#49271262)
Just use Steam. Works on all the Linux distros. lmao Ironically this might not even be as stupid a suggestion as it sounds.

It's already a job requirement for a bunch of places, they're just not listing it. I lost out on a job recently because I haven't used cursor ai.
The wealthy Quaker drivers thing threw me. I know it's an exaggeration but is there a large enough wealthy Quaker driver population drivers ubers for this to be a concern?

It’s okay for you to not get everything. This one is simple, it’s just not for you. You don’t get it because it wasn’t built for you.
Because of my ADHD I would constantly get pulled over if automatic lights were removed
Re:ChatGPT Pro on Thursday December 05, 2024 @02:25PM (#42331669)
I’ve been considering dropping ChatGPT for the same reason. Now that the app is out the only thing I actually care about is search.
I could play devils advocate and say that it’s bad for poor students because if authors are not fairly compensated then these authors won’t write textbooks and if they don’t then future students won’t benefit from having the textbooks.

I’m glad it used Java. I wound up rewriting the code in Python and it really helped me understand the concepts a lot better.

Re:Students invent quieter leaf blower on Thursday May 16, 2024 @09:20AM (#40378089)

Not the OP but I would agree with you if I was not told explicitly by several people that they love being outside with loud gas powered engines. These people happen to be my neighbors. There's a culture around small gas powered engines. People grew up with them, and learned engine repair on them, which helped them build a career. I have used battery powered leaf blower and a battery powered weed eater, and I have been told "that's nicer than anything else I've ever used, but I just love gas engines".

Just going to drop this here: https://countercraft.substack.com/p/no-most-books-dont-sell-...

This comes up constantly and it’s just wrong.

When I first started making a lot of money I was extremely generous but I realized quickly that it still goes quicker than you realize. So I’m not sure if that’s part of this perception or not.

I live in an area with high levels of PFAS in the water, so this isn't always true.
Re:Prediction Markets Have an Elections Problem on Monday January 29, 2024 @07:23PM (#39184714)
How does that work? Being a professional gambler, I mean. I'd love to know more about this.
Well, it wasn’t wrong. The Internet has made people dumber.
I’ve never had that problem. Maybe it’s because I bank with USAA, and a lot of their tech is out dated.
I just cancel my debit card instead. It’s quicker, and then when I have to add my card to sending that needs it again I have a much deeper understanding of where my money is going.

God no. This sound awful. I can’t think of anything creepier than cicadas.
Whenever I read stuff like this it always sounds made up. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve installed Linux and I’ve literally never had these issues.

I probably would have opened with that.

Also, after a quick Google search, it looks like it's religiously affiliated. They don't seem to make that apparent on their website though.

Is it though? Because if they were doing something that good wouldn't I have heard of this service by now? I have a pretty good (I would wager better than most) understanding of which streaming services are available but I've never even heard of this one.
