You're right. I work full time on Facebook Applications and there are several things hindering the FB Platform. First is the lack of moderation of apps. Secondly, the approved advertiser list has too many companies promoting mobile offers (which are spammy) (
http://developers.facebook.com/adproviders/). As a consequence Application ads are seedy. Think 'You have 1 new message' type ads, or "Are you smarter than Obama" type ads. Thirdly, the whole Permissions/Authentication system needs to be improved. The Permissions wall in its current embodiment advertise the negatives of adding an Application.
Even if you disagree with the above, you should agree that an API that accounts for 10% of a site's traffic, like Facebook's, is a struggling ecosystem.

Periodically you will find cereal boxes with a 'Free Adult Movie Admission' inside. The cereal is around $3.00 while movie admission is around $14. My friend and I used to buy some cereal, tear off the coupons on the way to the theatre and enjoy a nutritious snack during the movie.
Combination of fatique and a sense of completion. We can walk away now and say it was a success or we can struggle for another 1.5 years trying to achieve another level of success. At this point we're ready to sell, we're doing it now because it's worth something and we've reached a scalable and solid idea. We've accomplished everything that we've wanted to for our first start-up.
Technically we e-mailed our heads off. Still, to this day we're out of the yahoo spam filter (for now).

No, seriously. If you go on Youtube and click on a Recommended Video link you will directed to a Rick Astley video.Does anyone else think this is nuts?
I actually thought the exact same thing while watching the movie.
Lol, for the first half of the movie I couldn't figure out if he was saying "Winner, winner, chicken thinner" or "dinner". Thanks for resolving it for me.
I've been watching this post closely. First of all I don't think it ever made the top of the front page, which I think is odd for the techcrunch post covering the launch of a YC company.
Either the founders didn't make a lot of friends during the YC dinners or something more probable - everyone knows that Omnisio is a winner. Voting it up only reveals our own inadequacies.
Because as soon as I saw this I said wow, I wish I had thought of that, or better yet, I wish I knew how to do that. This product is going to rock the socks.

Nice, I'm assuming you're not one of the founders. But if they're reading this, good stuff!
That's what I said to myself about HP, Dell, Lenovo until I bought a MBP (Macbook Pro).
It's tough to imagine 'what it could be' unless you actually see it.

Another appeal of big companies that wasn't touched on in the essay is that 'everybody's doing it'. I would argue that in addition to the economies of scale of mass production a large reason why you see people in corporations, eating crappy foods, and even wearing the same clothes is because 'everybody's doing it'.
I agree. The design is very nice.

If you happen to need a break, I'd be happy to talk about our application for a bit, or just, well, it would be cool to get a phone call.
Good point, I'll put that in there, I think.
Oh yeah for sure. We already have a quasi ClutterMe facebook app hacked together, it's not viral at all, like 65 users, 3 active.
We decided to make something a lot more sugary. We'll see how it goes. I'd say what it is, but that would just spoil it.
I've noticed that when I was editing the application and left the window open for a long period of time (maybe 30 minutes - 2 hours) I would find that clicking 'Update' would return an error. I'm not sure if Refreshing my page helped, but when I clicked the back button my application would be saved. I only remember it from the trauma of the prospect of losing my data. I thought it was a time-out issue.
This happened to me a while ago, I would say late August, early September.

Yeah, I know for a fact that a bunch of YC companies use them. I was told so by a YC founder. So we signed up with them and so far no complaints. They are quick, and somehow they caught wind of when we launched and sent us an e-mail asking of there was anything they could do for us. It was a nice touch.
So does one recommend putting all your projects in the corporation of YC funds?
