We have a 'Who is Hiring' thread over at DataTau (http://www.datatau.com/item?id=3398). Looking for data scientists? Feel free to crosspost there. We have a good chunk of the data science crowd there.

Doesn't www.enigma.io do this?
Re:Google Calendar Charts on Monday May 19, 2014 @10:32PM (#7770960)
Nice! For those of you that want to play with similar visualizations: http://kamisama.github.io/cal-heatmap/ is a pretty nice js module that does this very nicely.
The comments really confused me. I thought the article was about delivering a pitch for your startup.

I have a habit of reading the comments on HN before reading the article. Helps me confer some context to it usually, and also see if it's worth spending my time. (Yes I know I should be making my own decision.)

Re:Don’t drown in email: How to use Gmail more efficiently on Monday December 30, 2013 @10:24PM (#6988756)
Fantastic, just set my inbox up using this. So excited.

One other hack idea:

If you use your android phone to send reminders ('Note to Self' voice command)

You can set up a filter for mails with Subject:"Note to self" Apply label 'yellow-bang' Skip: inbox

Re:Show HN: Reportr - Your life's personal dashboard on Monday November 25, 2013 @08:08PM (#6798375)
Wow. I haven't used it yet, but I love it already! I am going to go ahead, open a pull request and work on connecting a time tracker like SlimTimer (though I wish someone came up with a better interface). Opening a pull request because I'll need all the help I can get since I am still new to web development and nodejs.

Also, Spotify!

Have you looked at http://codegolf.stackexchange.com/ ? From what I understand, these are similar except it's more about doing things in the least amount of characters than lines.

For example, here's the 552 character Ruby code to print the lyrics of a song.

    s="We; n7trangMsL8loT63Ke rules5s8d8I

Re:The Wallaby Card on Friday November 15, 2013 @12:52AM (#6737977)
You mean '3 out of top 4'? There's a "Protean echo" too.
Re:The Wallaby Card on Friday November 15, 2013 @12:50AM (#6737968)
Wait. Why not both wallaby cards in the coin?
Re:GitHub's Explore Email on Monday November 11, 2013 @08:58PM (#6715384)
For some reason I have a suspicion that Github Trending is game-able. I tweeted once about this suspect repo that had 3000+ stars and all it said was something like "Hello to all github trending viewers" or something along those lines.

Link to the author of that repo: https://github.com/mandatoryprogrammer

What remains of the repo is visible in his profile.

Anybody have a clue as to how he did it?

Re:Ask HN: Graph Theory, What kind of Graph is this? on Tuesday November 05, 2013 @06:16AM (#6674473)
Tree.

Wish HN: Good luck

I am nowhere close to founding a startup. Heck, I started learning to code only a year and a half back. Yet as a part of this community (only recently), I can only imagine the anxiety that most of you are going through.I just thought I'll wish everyone who sees this all the best, and remind everyone:"No matter how slow you run, you're still lapping everyone on the couch." - The guy on the couch.

Haven't had the chance to play around, but it looks clean and it's a nice concept.

Have you checked out https://www.hackerrank.com/ ? They initially started out with bot challenges as well.

Re:I failed a Twitter interview on Wednesday October 30, 2013 @04:10AM (#6640126)
I have no idea why a bunch of people here keep saying these questions are good for recruiting 'mathematics scholars'. Fact: I am a mathematics graduate student and I would not be able to solve this problem. I hope there isn't a notion that people studying mathematics spend all their time solving Project Euler type questions.

In fact I would be thrilled if they are recruiting for math people. They are not. I have been in the job market for a while now and recruiters literally stop listening when they don't hear "CS" in the first sentence.

Re:Poll: Where are you currently living? on Sunday October 20, 2013 @10:43PM (#6582928)
Can we not just ask pg for the data?
Re:Poll: Where are you currently living? on Sunday October 20, 2013 @10:42PM (#6582922)
I hope someone is keeping track of the votes along with the time data. That might be very interesting, as well.
Re:This is a valid ipv4 address on Sunday October 20, 2013 @05:07PM (#6581489)
Went to RSnake's website and encoded the address of Facebook to post on my wall. Facebook does not let me post it. After 3 or 4 tries, it blocked my account.

Does anyone know why Facebook does that?

Re:Poll: Do you read the "new" page on HN? on Monday October 14, 2013 @08:58PM (#6550748)
I'd go with this if I had to pick one. But having it in a new page is essentially that, right?
Re:Poll: Do you read the "new" page on HN? on Monday October 14, 2013 @08:57PM (#6550744)
Have you actually seen some of the posts in /new ? I don't think some of the links actually deserve even the accidental exposure to traffic.
Re:Poll: Do you read the "new" page on HN? on Monday October 14, 2013 @08:43PM (#6550673)
The problem is then the signal-to-noise ratio decreases and therefore making the front page less attractive to new (maybe even to more experienced) users.
I had the same question too. The footnote #1 states that >"StackEdit is a free, open-source Markdown editor based on PageDown, the Markdown library used by Stack Overflow and the other Stack Exchange sites."
Re:Show HN: Featureless text editor on Monday September 30, 2013 @05:35AM (#6468579)
Coolest. Thing. Ever. I just bookmarked that.
Re:The Ads to End All Ads on Saturday August 24, 2013 @02:56AM (#6267942)
If AdBlock were to become more common, don't you think websites that depend on ad money (almost everything) would start building around it like Hulu has done?
This is awesome. But, does anyone know how to do this with `--save-cookies` command with wget?
