Besides being used in jewellery, gold and silver have other practical applications, particularly gold.

It's used in electronics, aerospace and medicine among other fields. Industries are interested in buying gold for it's practical applications.

It's afford to rent not afford to own. There are people with full time jobs living out of cars.

I'm sure at 100k you can afford to rent a one room apartment.

Re:Passing the torch on Monday October 02, 2017 @11:03AM (#15384306)
I don't see how you can call 1 case an emerging phenomenon. More over that there haven't been any other cases since.

I don't think we should be afraid, as the OP mentioned, of coyotes stalking our children in the parks because of one isolated incident.

Coyotes have only killed two people in North America in all of recorded history (and if you check recorded history for wolf attacks it goes back at least to the 1800s). https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Coyote_attacks_on_humans

A 3 year old child in 1981 and a 19 year old woman in 2009. Both victims were alone at the time of their attacks. Coyotes killing humans is an exceedingly rare occurrence.

Of course. When you're dressed properly you can go out and enjoy yourself every day of the year.

I live in Canada and I like the rainy days of autumn and the cold days of winter. I feel like I have the trails almost to myself... and sometimes I do :)

Re:Hacking Servo for Noobs on Friday October 16, 2015 @08:36AM (#10398836)
I have made some small contributions or tried to, to some open source projects in the past and I must say, Servo has been the most welcoming and most beginner friendly. The team has clearly made it a priority and it shows.

Personally for me the hardest part has been finding easy issues. While the Servo team does a great job of creating them, there's a lot of people vying for them. And then, even harder, progressing from these to bigger harder issues, which is where I'm still at.

Re:Fibonacci Clock – Could you tell time? on Wednesday May 06, 2015 @04:08PM (#9501467)
Makes me think of those binary clocks which are made up of columns of leds. A friend of mine has had one of those for years.

Hard to tell the time at first but it's surprising how fast you can learn to read the time reasonably fast.

You don't have kids do you?
Re:Our Newest Developer Is Ten Years Old on Friday August 22, 2014 @01:58PM (#8213171)
Shouldn't he rather be playing with his friends doing normal stuff 10 years old do.

He's gonna be able to do this kind of work for decades starting in his twenties. What he won't be able to do his reclaim his lost childhood years.

Re:Ask HN: Breaking out of a career silo on Saturday August 16, 2014 @05:28PM (#8187641)
Thanks!

As for the link, I hadn't checked back the new submissions. I'll go over it.

Ask HN: Breaking out of a career silo

I got my first job as a .Net programmer doing line of business applications. Nine years later, I have been doing this ever since (at different jobs).I would like to make a switch to something else (different language, different type of application, different type of organization, something non Microsoft related) but feel I am stuck in a silo career wise. While I have acquired experience with...

I have also created a site designed to help people find smaller scale Github projects. You can find it here : http://gilles-leblanc.github.io/dispatcher/

Even then, like it's mentioned in the article you need a 16mb datablock.
Re:GitHub under DDoS attack right now (again...) on Friday March 21, 2014 @09:26AM (#7442092)
I don't know, it's happened frequently in the past as well.
Re:GitHub under DDoS attack right now (again...) on Friday March 21, 2014 @09:20AM (#7442045)
Of all the sites I frequently visit/use, GitHub is by far the one to get DDoS the most often. Anyone has any insights on why?
Re:What Programming Languages Do You Struggle To Hire For? on Wednesday January 29, 2014 @10:42AM (#7144460)
I had written something on this. I remember speaking to 2 people in a company who needed someone with X years in Silverlight and they weren't considering anyone who didn't have those on their resume. 6 months later they still had an open position and were still trying to hire someone.

Ask HN: What do you look for in open source projects you want to contribute to?

I am making a web-site to propose GitHub projects to people looking to start contribution to projects. I am still in the beginning stages and I am looking for suggestions on how to improve the results. To do this I would like to know what people look for when they are searching for an open source project to contribute to?For reference here is the site:...
