Similarly I am using https://mdisearch.com to find mdi icons. It is made for developers and integrates Algolia to find icons with synonyms (looking for home return house icon) which is very convenient.

Ask HN: React UI Frameworks

I can’t get my hands on a beautiful UI framework I saw in one Show HN project few months ago. It is not part of https://github.com/brillout/awesome-react-components#ui-frameworks nor https://github.com/enaqx/awesome-react#react-component-libraries. Do you know any nice UI frameworks / component libraries which are not one of :AgnosticUI ant-design atlaskit base...

Re:Ask HN: An advice that changed your life? on Saturday October 29, 2022 @08:15AM (#33383383)
Happiness is a choice. « Have you choose to be happy ? » That’s was the question a mentor asked me. Since then I have made it a priority in my life, and I am much more happy 7 years after. It so basic but since I meet so many people who don’t know what they want in life; have no purpose, never asked them selves what do they want and fell like shit. I think having the honest goal to be Happy, it is a good starting point.

Totally agree, for non trivial project it totally makes sens, but for hobby project it doesn’t always make sens. Even less for beginners like OP.
Coworking places. Great to meet IRL like minded people (entrepreneurs, freelancers, devs…). Better than colleagues because truly your friends.
Re:Ask HN: Help me pick a front-end framework on Sunday September 11, 2022 @08:53AM (#32799222)
Typescript doesn’t make sense if you don’t manipulate a lot of data or around the app. It can be a pain and lead to a lot of fatigue if don’t get benefits out of it. I am still using js for most of my personal front end projects, and still benefits from intellisense from libraries written in typescript even in standard .js file with VSCode and other IDEs. But 100% of my project uses Eslint (with « recommended » rules + eslint-config-prettier), this is absolutely a must have.

Ask HN: Find real world examples of a particular lib in GitHub

A secret url who wasn't to secret, it was simply a subdomain : preview.mydomain.com. Even if it was a subdomain, Paddle team was accommodating and approved the main domain. Just talk to them.

Re:Tips for Developers Who Want to Build a SaaS Startup on Tuesday August 30, 2022 @03:32AM (#32647625)
I have recently used Paddle for a small saas. I am selling a Pro plan that give access to a restricted feature of the web app. As the Pro plan was introduced as a later stage, Paddle verification team accepted to review a "staging" version of the web app before I post it to production. I definitely talk to real humans, but I took time to express my situation. Paddle integration not too painful (good but not perfect documentation) considered it was my first saas. I might write about it if some of you are interested.
Re:Ask HN: What is something you built but never marketed? on Sunday August 14, 2022 @10:15AM (#32459410)
I have built an iOS and Android app called Boomerang to send email to myself in one tap. It’s been around for 5 years and has started as a side project for learning Ionic. I have maintained it so far and users (5K+ MAU) love it so far and want to give me money for it. I am planning to monetize it though as its started to cost me some money.

Re:Zendesk to be acquired on Thursday July 21, 2022 @04:59PM (#32184976)
As an enduser I don’t like Zendesk. I find it unfriendly to use. Like when you open a request you receive a response by email and you can reply it to. But if you want to open your request on the website (to check status or other details) you won’t find a single link to your ticket, not even to the home. I have to manually open my browser and navigate to the support page (if I am lucky enough to find it) of whatever product I am using is. How frustrating…
Re:Ask HN: Does anybody still use bookmarking services? on Thursday June 23, 2022 @02:55PM (#31853606)
Email rocks for this. I have developed an app to email myself in one click : https://boomerang-app.io
Re:Ask HN: Does anybody still use bookmarking services? on Thursday June 23, 2022 @02:50PM (#31853568)
I will self promote as it’s one of the main use cases of Boomerang. It’s a minimal mail to self app for iOS and Android with share extension to bookmark website in one click. Emails are super convenient because you consult them everyday so your links doesn’t get lost in an app.

Re:NextDNS API on Thursday June 16, 2022 @06:03PM (#31771561)
I would love to disable filtering for a limited time (eg when opening a TechCrunch article which doesn’t load with nextDns enable), but the api doesn’t seems to provide a way to achieve this. So I need to open the app and disable NextDns, then I forget toi re-enable it..
Re:Ask HN: Self Hosted Webmail Client on Thursday June 09, 2022 @04:22PM (#31686296)
Looks good thanks !

Ask HN: Self Hosted Webmail Client

I am looking to self host emails for a small non profit organization. MX plans are cheap when buying a domain name but come with poor webmail like Roundcube[0] which really feels outdated when compared with Gmail or Fastmail. I am looking to self host a full featured modern webmail client but can’t find any. Why ?Soho[1] is the best I have found and supported by Gandi[2].[0]...

Really depends one the area and type of land (legally buildable, water, quality of soil, sun exposition, view, …). Bought my farm for 300k€ (multiple all stone buildings, 250m2 livable without renovation, 300m2 non livable, 2ha land). 1 hour from Toulouse (not remote). Same thing more remote you can find for half the price (Cantal, Puy de Dome, Corrèze, Ariège).
It is basically a not ending freelance contract (front end dev). I initially started this gig at 250€ a day (8hours), then 3 years and a half later after making myself non dispensable (investing myself genuinely in the product/ company) I rose my rate each year without asking permission to end at 500€ currently. In the same time my days went from 8hours to 6hours, as my productivity increased. I just love what I do and am good at it. BI Company of 10 people, 10 years old. I found it on malt.com (good French job board).
I can totally relate to your lifestyle!

Totally agree, partner before.

Tarn is pretty young and dynamic though, lots of associations (permaculture, ecology, etc..).

> Do you have more to share? Blog? Email? Are you from France?

Sorry no blog. Email in my profile, we can have a zoom.

> Any knowledge on building code?

I am a developper since 10 years.

> Did you check future proves like water table?

I did my research, looks ok to me. Long topic.. Got a well and 8m3 of buried tank currently, planning to build 10m3 more. But I am not a prepper.

I have installed a 4g antenna on the roof : https://www.speedtest.net/fr/result/13239915850

50€ for truly unlimited traffic.

Fiber coming next year in all the Tarn!

> - What prompted you to make that switch to rural developer?

My wife's parents live in the countryside. Coming from an urban place, I enjoyed being surrounded by nature. Best thing for me is coding under a tree, listening to birds.

It's my life journey, I was't happy in cities. I just found my balance in that way but it took us time to find the right place (not to remote, not to expansive, not to "old", etc...).

- Are you an expat or French? If an expat, what was your pre-France life like?

French.

- What is cost of living like, and how does that compare with your salary?

It is really subjective but I feel like living in abundance. Earning 50k€/yr after all taxes (working 30 hours a week, 10 weeks OFF). I bought the farm for 300k€. Standard houses (100m2 with 1000m2 garden) are loaned for 600€/month around here.

- Does/did your salary get affected by your remote location?

I have always worked remotely so no change at all.

It's still fine as it is a semi-continental climate. Raining a lot in winter, summer pretty dry and hot (95 °F / 35°C). I have got a 8m3 of buried water tank, planning to build a 10m3 more (by a pro) and a well that dries up in summer + water from public network (of course).
Vegetable garden is on 300m2. Fruit trees on 500m2 currently expanding it to another 500m2 and planning to add chicken, dwarf goat and geese. 1.3ha is a meadow mown by a farmer to make hay bales, in exchange for 2 bales. My plan is to slowly expand on the meadow to make guest houses (for tourism and yoga retreats for my wife)n fruit trees and animals. Rest of land is composed of buildings (main house, guest house, yoga studio, and other dependencies) and garden.

I am not a farmer, and I don't enjoy spending my time cutting grass, that's why I am planning on adding small animals as they eat grass all day. I am trying to minimize the "human" part of the land, so I am using basic thermic tools (mower, brush cutter...) to cut grass and trees.
