News for hackers. Stuff that matters.

I guess just drag the bar around a lot and look at a few different states.
For a till tap, do deputies compel the business owners to open the till, or is there some kind of skeleton key that law enforcement use?

I think cyber security is going to be huge too, but not sure how to make a play on it, don't see any obvious winners in the security space. What approach do you take?
You could use Guided Access to allow them to use the calculator without leaving the app.
S&P 500 might have been a better return, but I can't borrow hundreds of thousands of dollars at < 5% interest invest in the stock market.

Also, do you think property taxes and maintenance expenses aren't passed on to renters in the form of higher rent?

Is this what Google Photos uses for their unlimited "high quality" image storage?
Re:How I Store My 1's and 0′s (2012) on Monday March 20, 2017 @12:50PM (#13915645)
I know the author probably didn't mean anything by it, but I dislike the implication that only a dude could bring ZFS to Linux.
Probably don't even need to be senior for +$200k total comp at Big 4.

I'm really curious what those guidelines are. I don't see them listed in that link.
This has been true in my experience. Interviewed at FB recently, they gave me a take-home project that we would go over together in the on-site interview. I spent a lot of effort on the project instead of typical white-board coding. I did great on the project but did so-so on the white-boarding. No offer.

It's only all-hands and agenda-less if you use it that way. My team spins up small, feature-specific rooms where only relevant people are present.

I've definitely been interviewed, never hired though.
Re:Self-made millionaire: Don't put money in your 401(k) on Thursday October 27, 2016 @11:14AM (#12805766)
What's wrong with a Roth IRA? You withdraw the principal penalty-free at any time, and you don't pay taxes on the growth in retirement. You don't even have to invest it in stocks if you're risk-averse.
Re:Self-made millionaire: Don't put money in your 401(k) on Thursday October 27, 2016 @11:12AM (#12805742)
>It can lower you into another tax bracket.

You're aware the tax brackets are graduated right? Only amounts over the bracket are taxed at that year, not your entire income for that year.

Re:Ask HN: What are your passive income sources? on Wednesday October 26, 2016 @04:25PM (#12800131)
Target retirement date funds, a handful of individual stocks for entertainment purposes. I also have dabbled with Lending Club (annualized ROI went from 15% to less than 5% recently) and the money saved on interest in paying back my student loans early.

I'm amazed that's a hospital, I would have guessed it was a parking garage if you showed me that picture with no context.
Re:Fuck You Startup World on Tuesday October 11, 2016 @04:45PM (#12688375)
Serious question, what's wrong with deploying 100 times per day? I'll take that over one monstrous semi-weekly deploy.
Re:Space Requirements for Tree Traversal on Sunday October 09, 2016 @11:52PM (#12674924)
It does seem like the author swapped those two.

Google Flights is simply a pretty UI around matrix.itasoftware.com, no?
Re:Why I finally ditched Jira on Friday September 09, 2016 @12:27PM (#12463722)
My team uses Trello for project management and I couldn't be happier with it. It's very simple by default but you can make complex cards/items if necessary.

Battery saver mode was added back in recently, FYI. Though it still seems buggy. The app occasionally fails to wake after raising your phone.
I don't know how much I would pay for this, but it would be more than zero dollars.
Re:How (Not) to Write an iOS SDK on Thursday July 14, 2016 @02:17PM (#12096108)

I'm not an iOS developer but aren't Swift and Objective C files interchangeable?
