I am currently finishing a dual major in Math and German. I was originally in Mechanical Engineering, but after teaching myself VBA in order to solve various problems in manufacturing environments I fell in love with programming and have been doing it for fun ever since. In addition to my Bachelor's study I am completing an Associates in CS online as I try to transition away from ME. I am highly interested in moving to the Bay Area, Chicago or any EU country (particularly Germany/Austria/Switzerland, Spain, UK/IRE)
The math is correct but this doesn't factor in inflation, so you probably need to change the original salaries down to whatever $40k in todays money was worth in 2009. That leads to 34k*(1.18)^10 = 178k, which seems much more reasonable
Are you forgetting about the change where all new homes in CA have to have solar panels? We already are moving towards mass adoption of solar, that doesn't stop us from exploring other options that work in less sunny places, at night, etc. Solar won't work everywhere.
What are some features that you would look for in a laptop so that you could still be using it in 10 years if you bought it new today?
I recently watched a TED talk by Peter Singer that went into Effective Altruism pretty well
Ive heard of Quebec and Sesq... however you spell it, but BC is the only one I could point to on a map
To be fair, as an American I don't even need to go to Europe to prove how little non-US geography I know. I can't even name or point to any Mexican or Canadian regions except for British Colombia

Like the title says, I am about to graduate with a non CS degree. I have some programming experience from making my own projects but nothing worth showing off. How can I use the next 8 mos. to set myself up for a job in tech?

My job frequently takes me to places without reliable internet access. What kinds of projects can be worked on with no or unreliable internet? I don't want to be forced to stop working on my side projects just because I don't have all the data I might need.
Isn't it more similar to Twitch?
If you have a samsung, you can do this by putting your phone in battery saver mode
The Uber system would not have braked (and didn't) the system that would have braked was the Volvo system built into the car which Uber purposefully shut off. If Uber cant drive on a clear dry night without killing people they shouldn't be allowed on public roads endagering people who didn't sign up to be around these cars.
There a lot more than you would think down here: Honda, Mercedes, Kia, Toyota, Mazda all have plants and many of their suppliers are also in state.
At that point why not just organize a meetup and charge admission instead of reinventing the wheel?
Car companies are offering ridiculous deals, and giving out loans to people that don't have good credit. If I had to guess, they didn't learn their lesson and will be in deep trouble again.
Not the original commenter but I am currently studying at UA and interested, who could I reach out to for more information about internships?

The payout comes from the other bettors losing bets. The state never loses in a lottery.

I was recently locked out of my gmail account despite getting my password correct at a semi crucial time. This was despite not having set up 2FA. I am trying to use my cell phone less but if I can't use my email without it that might become an issue. Are there any alternative email services that don't require you to have an cell phone number?
Its a little bit of hyperbole to say it still looks like the 70s when there used to still be a lot of orchards back then. They never could have anticipated this growth
But that's just the HQ you might get sent to a smaller factory town (Rostock/Bremen/etc.)
There might be an aspect of shame where those people are less likely to talk about adjusting to moving down the ladder.
I think a good system to look at copying in the real world is the Czech Koruna or Japanese Yen. It is a real world example of a currency that doesn't use decimal values. This simplifies the math involved and by having each unit have a very small value you can replace cents, and you don't have money "dissapear" due to being rounded off.
The city "pushes" a large part of the homeless population into the Tenderloin. They seem to be quite happy with this set up and don't want to have the homeless spread out throughout the city. It may be altruistic in that it is easier to help them out when you know where they live or a cynical approach to a problem but there isn't much interest in changing the status quo
Your electricity costs are probably significantly higher and you might lose money overall
I don't think making money was the goal of this project, more that they wanted proof of concept to show off.
