I think it was inside based on this excerpt: “Opening Ghost’s package, purchasers would discover a handy information sheet that today gives us a sense of how some underground purveyors understood and promoted their wares.”

Re:Ask HN: What do you use to replace incandescent lights?
on Friday November 17, 2023 @09:27AM (#38304032)
I use the 40 watt “appliance bulb” incandescents that you can still get when feasible - like in my small office. But they only work for certain situations- hard to fully light a room on 40 watt bulbs, but for accent lighting they are great.

Just attended what I guess was the last conference a couple of weeks ago in SF. Attendance was about 250. It was a solid group of speakers, and yes, front end/ux centric, but not limited to that. Unfortunately I got covid on the trip, and then gave it to my wife and 7 year old, which essentially took us all out for the holiday.

Not sure I follow you, are you suggesting bicyclists should wear motorcycle helmets?
Re:Mandatory Helmet Laws Make Cyclists Less Safe

Right - good point. And obviously my larger point is where do you draw the line with mandates? The arguments here are largely about preventing head injuries - so how far is too far?
Re:Mandatory Helmet Laws Make Cyclists Less Safe

Maybe so, but auto accidents still result in lots of head injuries even with the existing safety systems.

I'm talking about a bicycle helmet.

According to the CDC, 30% of injury related deaths are TBI-related, and 14% of those TBIs are from car accidents. Why not have mandatory helmets for auto drivers too?
Re:How to Sell Tickets Fairly

Ticketmaster could have done everyone a huge favor by simply staggering the sales for separate dates a bit and not trying to sell tix for every show all at once.

I once had a business owner put forth a similar contract after they had purchased the company where I was employed for a few years. I refused to sign (I was only one out of 60 or so employees that did so). The "accountant" told me I would never work in California again as all companies were moving in this direction. I'm still employed in CA, however, that company no longer exists. :).

Embody + Aeron and alternate between them. Always amazes me people will spend incredible amounts on a car, but will skimp on something they spend 8+ hours a day sitting in.
Re:Why did bar ends go away from mountain bikes?

Totally anecdotal but I had a friend in the 90s who fell, landed on his bar end, and had to have an emergency appendectomy.

For any UI that has long running power users, however complicated, the users will over time memorize how the screens look and operate. It doesn't matter how 'intuitive' the redesign is because you will have broken their rote patterns - and the user has to rethink how they use the software, often at every turn. In the high paced environment of a call center this is simply untenable.
