This is another story, and I'm inclined to agree with you. They are desperate for more data.
The subscriptions are a key part of the engine to ensure The Machine can keep improving itself by harvesting all that data and feeding it back in. Many of the enterprise contracts forbid the lab from training on that data.

Is this a sign we're in the right timeline or the wrong one?

To be clear, the utility of these processes can be good - but it also gets perverted into weaponization of process. Local municipalities frequently deploy these regulations arbitrarily as a feature, not a bug, creating systemic friction to artificially create "jobs", drive up development costs, and suppress development.
That's not what we're talking about. By all means, follow the structural engineer's specification. But if you've ever submitted plans to a city to build a home, there is endless nonsense full of red tape: Drainage plan, soil analysis, tree survey, topographical survey, environmental site assessment, wind analysis, noise assessment, and more.
Sometimes these things make sense, but a lot of the time the work was already recently completed 3 years ago and yet they'll make you do it again. Last month I paid $3,900.00 to get 3 tiny trees and one medium sized oak surveyed here in the Bay Area. It's really about politics and control- the city wants to make a bunch of fake jobs and collect very high fees along the way. Welcome to insanity!
I don't. A lot of what they do is "make work" that slows down building homes and spaces with dilbert-esque nit picks.
My friends who work there all hate it, the culture has become toxic. Everyone is hanging on for dear life to preserve their standard of living.
Was he able to keep the same trolley for the entire journey?
Did Apple hire some of the folks who created Windows 11? How else can this trend be explained :)

A questionable move on Google's part, if true. Can you share any evidence?
And they already know your location. They're 3 minutes away.
Thanks! TL;DR:

The answer is that not enough posts are getting upvoted on https://news.ycombinator.com/asknew (or https://news.ycombinator.com/newest) to clear the small threshold necessary to make it to /ask.
> This has been happening for a while. Not sure what the solution is. Sometimes I go to /asknew myself and upvote the ones that seem good enough to make it to /ask, if not the frontpage, but that's a manual operation and I rarely have time.

Do you have any specific recomendations?

Trump's phone product is a rebadged HTC made in China? Sheesh, you really can't make this stuff up.

TFA used way too many words to convey the opinion that agent memory should outlive the machines an agent uses, while still behaving like ordinary files.
Where is the data and evidence to support the claim? It appears missing.
To be fair, these are significantly larger than a Mac Mini. More like one of the old Macintosh Quadras or Performas.
But your main point still stands.

At $60 million, it's around a 2x markup over the value of the key hardware components. Is this a good deal?

Everyone already knows this, using these systems to create synthetic data to create more models is the primary driver for world model technology.
