Re:Online censorship is crushing indie webcomics on Sunday October 25, 2026 @06:49AM (#50230235)
This reminds me of Altered Carbon's Head in the Clouds, where exceedingly wealthy Bancroft kills prostitutes during sex, because he can afford it.

What if there was a massage parlor downstairs, perfectly legal and allowed, which marketed and sent wealthy patrons upstairs?

But whatever. Aside from the slippery slope argument of OnlyFans which I guess can be dispelled, I think using the raccoons for broader appeal and calling porn "queer" is poor.

Even less popular: I think there's a simple business argument to credit card companies and regulating porn. The sector has way higher fraud, disputes and chargebacks.

According to the commenter, price up while production per capita down makes the product unaffordable or less interesting to a lot of people. It is implied by the commenter that fuel producers should produce more and aim for lower prices.
Chat apps are cutting a slice into the supply side directly.
Re:We should be more ambitious with the software we build on Sunday October 25, 2026 @05:39AM (#50229760)
How does Hacker News work if absolutes like this opinion are the top comment people read first?

Why not say outright that "ideological friction" is about AI usage? Maybe some devops have friction cause when things break at 2am and they get called up they don't want to dig through 500k lines of slop the author can't explain?

And "empty 99% of the backlog everyday" <-> "hire more people to fix the bugs" is illogical. Reviewing slop and fixing bugs make me want to go build houses instead of software.

It's funded by YC!

Agreed. Most plausible reason they "can't remember" the good solution is because they were vibe coding and didn't really understand what they were doing. Research mode my ass.

Re:Why TigerBeetle is the most interesting database in the world on Wednesday October 01, 2025 @09:37AM (#45437581)
What's it like compared to Redis or even KeyDB?
Re:Why TigerBeetle is the most interesting database in the world on Wednesday October 01, 2025 @09:07AM (#45437238)
If it's gonna fit on one machine I'm picking Postgres, Mongo or Redis before TigerBeetle and let's be honest it's not the difference between the 4 that will make it not fit on one machine.

TigerBeetle doesn't shard either.
Well, Search had no chance when the sites also make money from Google ads. Google fucked their Search by creating themselves incentives for bounce rate.
Re:How I build software quickly on Monday July 14, 2025 @04:18AM (#44557610)
I like the writing style. It is simple and effective.

The author said LLM helps. Let's lynch him!

Honestly the metric which increased the most is the marketing and astroturfing budget of the major players (OpenAI, Anthropic, Google and Deepseek).

Say what you want about Facebook but at least they released their flagship model fully open.

Amazon SES is $0.10/1k email.
I think it's a proxy between your software and SQLite with a new database API. I guess "multiplexing" is a big word for saying you can someday swap SQLite for something else.

The CLI shows key-value store features.

I don't know if this software has real world savings in performance. I don't think I would ever use this software.

If a truck uses more gas than a car while going at the same speed, is the truck more gas-friendly?

The last commit on Github was 2 days ago so I think it's safe to say this is a dead project.
