Re:Satoshi Nakamoto Is Probably This Unknown Australian Genius? on Tuesday December 08, 2015 @10:06PM (#10701662)
the spelling of "silicone" looks intentional to me. the review is titled "Like the US is the only country to produce tech."

'Craig Wright of Australia wrote, a bit petulantly, “Always the assumption that [Satoshi Nakamoto] must be a bloody yank. The analysis of who Satoshi is is always so limited.”'

here here. That's a global maximum.

I believe this is it, though github is down for me now so I can't really tell.

Re:Passive Income is Not an Escape on Thursday June 07, 2012 @08:59PM (#4082132)
This needs a few more upvotes and comments. This is a gem. I think you could replace Passive Income with anything really. It's anything a person has decided will help them escape their situation and person.

His followup post is interesting also. After receiving hate-mail for putting down 9 to 5'ers, he explains that he is jealous...

Re:Ask HN: Are the HN forums losing their civility? on Sunday January 22, 2012 @07:09PM (#3498379)
Corpus Delicti, latin for body of crime...

I'm sympathetic to the discussion of promoting a civil and interesting community, however, in this specific example, I believe the lack of sensitivity towards the poster is actually worse than the crime itself.

Guidelines are exactly that, guidelines. When a long time contributor becomes emotional about the brutally honest instruction of killing an industry, which happens to be one he feels aligned to, I would figure the appropriate response is to explain rather than admonish. There is a propensity to over-regulate with respect to the guidelines, which I attribute to a lack of thought, really.

I found the article on Neal Stephenson to be more interesting. A link to it appears in the second last para.

Re:Ask HN: I need your advice! on Tuesday January 03, 2012 @05:40AM (#3419220)
The idea isn't so bad but your copy or communication is really bad. Your tag-line doesn't make sense. "We provide reviews for tech reports." - Why would I want a review for a tech report? Even the clicking on an example wasn't really enlightening. E.g. Finance. There is no attached chart...
Agree with the community being more important than the marketplace, will look to add more web 2.0 elements...

Why another marketplace? Because if I love books, then I want a place to hang out where there is only book related information.

Re:Ask HN: How do we promote Australia's marketplace for books? on Thursday November 17, 2011 @10:48PM (#3250510)
Thanks! We've been trying to contact physical bookstores and online sellers til now. The forums, blogs and clubs may be a better way forward. Amazon does not operate in Australia and the most active marketplace is a minimal free service run by universities (textbooksexchange).
Re:A guide to Jack Dorsey's 80-hour workweek on Monday November 14, 2011 @05:37AM (#3233548)
A small minority of people don't need much sleep. They are bound to be over-represented among workaholics.
Re:Melbourne opens new tech incubator on Tuesday October 25, 2011 @09:02PM (#3156650)
Why is rmc downvoted for having an opinion? Maybe that's just how he saw it.
Re:Ask HN: Competing with the crowd and not becoming RIM. on Monday September 19, 2011 @08:49PM (#3015811)
Lowering costs to compete with the near free alternative makes your company a poor competitor in comparison to them. This is because you have much higher costs and probably are not sufficiently different to justify it.

Options: 1. lower costs and essentially adopt the crowdsourced model 2. increase costs and quality and sell a premium product

Either way, the main thing is that you have identified that you do not want to tread water.

Re:How to find a job for hackers on Monday September 19, 2011 @08:46AM (#3013290)
Disappointed. Was hoping that this was how to find a 'job for hackers', not 'how to find a job' for hackers.
most people drawn to this article are python django programmers?
Would love to hear more about things you've learnt about rejecting companies which later go on to be successful beyond rtm marking harshly.
Re:Boot a linux kernel right inside your browser. on Tuesday May 17, 2011 @09:56AM (#2556347)
why??
scanning through the text, your name jumps out at me, which makes me ask myself what kind of HN consumer would call themselves that... to which the answer is, one with high average points karma
