No one thing is going to "fix our environmental problems." Only by doing a lot of "things" can we hope to "fix" our problems.
What are some of the main use cases for this project?
Re:Xonsh: Python-powered, cross-platform, Unix-gazing shell on Wednesday February 14, 2024 @10:54AM (#39371334)
I switched a few years ago and while there's a lot to like about (and power in) zsh, there's a lot i really dislike about it. For starters, it adds so much additional functionality and compatibility that the documentation (man pages are terrible). Also, the additional history & variable expansion capabilities are messy/ugly in shell syntax (imho). I think ultimately the problem is that, for shell scripting, bash has clearly won, but other shells show that there's room for an alternative specifically for a user's interactive interface...but zsh didn't get the memo so is trying to be all things to all people. One of these days, i'll probably swing over to fish...if I can get the energy to change my environment yet again.

As the saying goes: If the only tool you have is a hammer, it is tempting to treat everything as if it were a nail.
I’m assuming the op is referring to relying on a commercial CDN provider’s anycast implementation but I could be mistaken.

Apple switched when bash switched from GPL2 to GPL3 which they didn’t like. The older bash is still available.

And ksh (ksh88 & later)
Considering the number of features and capabilities that can be given to a usb-c cable, I think a better alternative would be to take cue from the humble resistor and use color coded bands around each of the ends. Text can only really cover 1-2 capabilities and it’d be nice to have a way to know exactly what a given cable can do, even if it requires a decoder ring.

I don’t remember if it was called out explicitly but there’s a fantastic documentary out now on AppleTV+ about Louis Armstrong. If you have a subscription, I highly recommend watching it!

You forgot (or missed) the rest of the quote:

As the article stated, many great artists changed one or the other, but only Louis did both.

It also probably has the same caveat that shock wave lithotripsy does too, where if the stone travels below the pelvis, the procedure can’t be used.
Having had a Ureteroscopy procedure, I can say it sure as hell doesn’t feel minimally invasive. It (well, post-op until they remove the stint) was almost as unpleasant as the kidney stone.

That series was my introduction to Hardcore History and to this day, my favorite series. The best podcast series on one of the best podcasts.
If the feds have physical access and considering the high likelihood that these are VMs and not physical, it would be a whole lot easier to get the hypervisor to just snapshot the VM w/ its memory and perform forensics against that file(s).
Can you elaborate more about what you saw/experienced there?
It’s “invisible” in that it’s one of those things people (especially property owners) prefer not to talk or think about. Like how most people grossly discriminate based on perceived appearance or attractiveness. No one wants to admit that they are part of the problem.

Have you tried Magnet[1] yet? I’ve been using it for years and really love it. TBH, I prefer it over way Windows does it (forcing you to decide wha goes in the “other” side of the screen).

I suspect they’re not replacing Slack’s video capabilities with this move. They are replacing Zoom’s.

I guess it could have been worse. It could have been Skype for Business.
Nah, those are code words. What they mean is they’re terrified it might negatively affect their home value (or for some, its racially motivated). Most of these people only care about other people until they think it might negatively effect their perceived wealth. Ask a hope owner if they’d support a bill that would shave 25% of their home value to help…starving children (and we’ll assume the program is proven successful) and most would come up with BS reasons to oppose it.
Uhh, speak for yourself. As a fanboy myself back then, it was kinda terrifying. Sure Power Computing was able to bump the bus speed beyond what Apple seemed to to able to do, but they also cannibalized Apple’s hardware market which they needed to stay alive. Also it became clear that the wheels were falling off the “new” OS rewrite (Rhapsody) project with no real plan for remedying. It was scary times when Microsoft had to help bail them out. Honestly, buying NeXT was the accidentally smartest move Apple executives made. I remember how cool BeOS was but was glad they chose NeXTStep over it. Mostly, because I was a Unix fanboy by that time too.

I’m assuming the parent is referring to Pinecone, not FastAPI.
