Re:The Megadonors Who Have Poured $1.2B into the Midterms on Monday November 02, 2026 @01:00AM (#50333583)
Even better, tax progressively. 0% under $100, 200% above $1000.

Re:When electric cars were for women on Sunday November 01, 2026 @02:49AM (#50323486)
My EV is less powerful than my former ICE but way more fun to drive, especially in the mountain area I live in.
Here in France it's a bit different : everyone aged 50 or more is tested (blood in fecal matter) every 2 years. If the result is positive then it's colonoscopy. All this is paid by the Sécurité Sociale of course. I'm in between these 2 kinds of tests and currently crossing fingers.
Some depending on the executable, sometimes it goes through /etc/ssl/cert.pem and sometimes through the Apple framework. This OS is a mess.
That's true, but I think it's much more effective for them to protest than just leave. And personally I prefer there's more decent employees at Meta.
The people who vote for the great "Make X Great Again" candidates don't protest.
Re:The result of the C++26 DIS ballot on Monday October 26, 2026 @09:10AM (#50243019)
Sure, but even then each org agrees on a different C++ subset. So each time you switch project you have to learn again.

And then there's the constant fear of UB, which the compiler doesn't tell you about. This language became too painful for me at least a decade ago.

Re:Desire to Move Permanently to U.S. at New Low on Friday October 16, 2026 @06:44PM (#50125782)
Yeah, as usual. Now treat the EU as one block and look at your numbers.
Who would have guessed ?
Re:Lobbying is corruption on Saturday October 10, 2026 @01:57PM (#50035414)
He was talking about the European parliament. The lobbying is organized and transparent there. But still some recent cases have demonstrated there remains some corruption.
Re:Anger as man sentenced to death for Facebook comment on Friday October 09, 2026 @02:34AM (#50016794)
It's a joke. In the US you have to put your hand on a Bible or equivalent when testifying in court.

France is a country where religion is separated from government.

Just do stop killing people like any civilized country.
They move on my Firefox mobile
Re:"They had no concept of a duty of care to their users." on Sunday September 27, 2026 @11:29AM (#49867523)
Sure. And nobody has a duty to use it. This user states that (s)he doesn't want to use an editor that doesn't care for its users. I don't blame anyone here.
Re:7 out of 9 Planetary Boundaries are breached on Tuesday September 22, 2026 @12:44AM (#49796872)
The problem is the collateral damages. It will take a lot of other species with us.
So now Iran with their freedom ?

"Move fast and break things" looks obviously bad for an autonomous vehicle ...
Re:Bill Gates tries to install MovieMaker on Wednesday September 09, 2026 @04:40AM (#49623274)
I love Debian so much. The amount of work done by volunteers is staggering, and the result is impeccable.
Re:Bill Gates tries to install MovieMaker on Wednesday September 09, 2026 @04:39AM (#49623265)
I really enjoy single-executable Rust things - that's what I use for building web apps (SSR). But it's not that widespread (for now ?).
Re:A Screensaver for LG's Spying Smart TVs on Tuesday September 08, 2026 @02:21AM (#49606189)

My fav is this :

> Someone decided to trash the one part of Windows that was usable? The file system is no longer usable. The registry is not usable. This program listing was one sane place but now it is all crapped up.

This is so true, and not only under Windows. Install any modern program under any modern OS and have a look at the filesystem, it's a flaming mess. Nowadays the only solution "smart people" have found is to install a complete system, complete with libraries and frameworks, for each program.

I miss the days of simple executables.

I'm also vegan except for fish. And meat.
Re:Don't Use a gmail.com Address on Sunday September 06, 2026 @11:15AM (#49587296)
Surprise surprise : lots of companies really use gmail with a custom domain. No way to escape.
Re:Don't Use a gmail.com Address on Sunday September 06, 2026 @11:07AM (#49587206)
Same same. People raise an eyebrow, ensure they got it correctly then they move on.
Sure. In a good way.
