Something like https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Do_Not_Track ? Which failed in part because Microsoft turned it on by default which even further disincentivised publishers from respecting it.

The pen writing without touching is usually a misalignment and fixed by removing and re-inserting (or replacing) the tip ime.

One of the ways pair programming can be effective is one of the pair keeping more of the big picture in mind. Either thinking about alternative approaches or at least spotting the escalation of commitment to current approach and calling a pause to reflect.

This does a much better job than anything I've seen before. Nice work. It still doesn't generate routes I'd use as they're too circuitous due to the poor cycle infrastructure in the UK. However, it does a good job of highlighting good options and options I didn't even know about.
This is brilliant. I've wanted this so many times and had to awkwardly switch between window being shared instead.

The irony of setting up a '“Bureaucracy Mailbox” for any examples any of you see where we might have bureaucracy' while announcing an edict enforced by centralised control to replace autonomous decision making about where & how to work.

Works fine on Linux if you set useragent to Chrome on Mac.
I wonder if we'll ever get hdcp on nvidia. As much as I enjoy 480p video from streaming services.

Few people getting driving licences sounds ideal.

In Europe there's no need. Got a licence over two decades ago have never needed to drive. Shops in walking distance, public transport anywhere in the country, convenient deliveries, walkable and cyclable cities.

Meanwhile other places have no freedom from cars, locked into expensive car financing, unable to access basic amenities without a car, and motorists have normalised killing millions of people a year.

Re:The Four Team Types from Team Topologies on Monday January 08, 2024 @02:29AM (#38909126)
Enabling teams can go work with other teams to "enable" them to be more effective. Think teams of specialists in skills that more teams need than you have specialists to go around, and who also benefit from the strong community of practice & extending state of the art with other specialists. e.g. Product security engineers. Enabling teams will work with all the other team types.

Complicated subsystem teams mostly work with value stream teams on a subset of a value "stream" that is complicated enough / specialised enough to need its own team of specialists, especially when it can be encapsulated in a library or service. e.g. owning an ML component within some software.

Platform Teams build an internal product and act like a value stream team where other internal teams are customers. Often useful for things that you wish you could buy off the shelf from a cloud vendor but can't. Building services and tooling that make the stream aligned and complicated subsystem teams more effective. Sometimes platform teams may need to act like enabling teams at times / with part of their effort to help other teams adopt their product.

I don't have much to recommend one over another. I have a Neewer, with a cheap hdmi screen attached in mirrored mode.

I use it for controlling lights, mute/unmute across zoom/teams/hangouts and raising various apps to foreground via little scripts. Mostly just executing wmctrl.
Re:Ask HN: Best WFH Purchases? on Sunday August 27, 2023 @08:40AM (#37282128)
Some of the things that make most difference to me

* Teleprompter so you can look at camera and the person you're talking to at the same time. Significantly reduces zoom fatigue for me.

* A bright key light. As well as meaning you can be seen on camera I've found it significantly improves my mood having a bright light in front of me that's diffuse enough to not dazzle.

* Bone conduction headphones are significantly more pleasant than traditional headphones/earphones for long days of meetings

* Decent microphone. Recommend Shotgun mic or lapel mic if you have ambient sound.

* Decent chair (good second hand options from failed startups)

* A decent camera (reused a mirrorless I already had)

* Decent coffee machine

* Large monitor

* Wacom tablet for diagraming

* Aircon (in UK this is uncommon but climate warming means it's unpleasant to be without for more of the year)

* Streamdeck for automating common tasks

If the team habits you have aren't joyful or even useful, why don't you change them?
You can use checked exceptions equivalently to Result types in streams e.g. https://github.com/unruly/control/blob/master/src/test/java/...

I mean in London the fastest option is public transit more often than not, and you get pretty close to door to door.
