Re:People Hooked on Vapes Try a New Way to Quit: Cigarettes on Wednesday September 23, 2026 @09:16AM (#49815620)
I never got in to smoking, but even having done ZYNs a handful of times (e.g., with friends on trips, think I bought 2-3 tins maximum), I find myself craving them. Nicotine is insane.
Re:Twitter Viewer – View Twitter Without Account on Wednesday August 26, 2026 @10:49AM (#49450196)
It's disappointing that this is even necessary given earlier promises of opening up the Twitter algorithm.

No amount of deleting or blocking applications will substitute for a genuine interest in what's in front of you.
Re:The Lottery-fication of Everything on Tuesday October 21, 2025 @09:30PM (#45663956)
I'm speaking mostly for Gen Z but often sense this general, concerning goal of trying to get financially independent as fast as possible (gambling, AI slop, becoming an influencer, startup) where the ends justify the means.
big "who is John Galt" vibes in these comments lol

Is it just me or is this super unreadable?

really soul crushing to realize YouTube needs to go down to see how I default to opening it

Despite the flak Apple gets, there M-series continues to impress me as I learn more about hardware.

Wow. This is neat.

I expect we may see more things like this in the future.

My former employer sponsored an Esports team (Liquid).

Re:VIMMaster on Wednesday August 27, 2025 @01:14PM (#45042331)
These little tutorials and games are great. I played VIM Adventures.

However, one thing I really struggle with is learning when I can be doing something more efficiently. I rarely use markers, anything beyond default registers, commands, and so on.

I'm giving Neovim a try for my systems course trying to get better but I do wish these sorts of games pushed me to get better at these more advanced usage tricks.

some things that have helped me with this

1. introduction to epistemic humility

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Epistemic_humility

Your knowledge is limited and fallible. Other people may know things you don’t. Reality is complex.

Though, it makes any political discussions difficult.

2. first principles thinking

3. Zettelkasten note-taking

What is a web browser? What is HTTP? What is an IP address? Link on and on IN YOUR OWN WORDS.

Re:AI is killing the web. Can anything save it? on Monday July 21, 2025 @05:11AM (#44633178)
I personally found this somewhat exciting. While small publishers getting screwed isn’t great, I think it’s fascinating that these tools are challenging the traditional SEO landscape. There was a lot of hype around this with “Web 3”.

If I ask ChatGPT for a recipe, I’m not going to have to read a story about someone’s grandparent first.

Re:ChatGPT agent: bridging research and action on Thursday July 17, 2025 @01:54PM (#44596116)
This problem particularly interests me.

One of my favorite use cases for these tools is travel where I can get recommendations for what to do and see without SEO content.

This workflow is nice because you can ask specific questions about a destination (e.g., historical significance, benchmark against other places).

ChatGPT struggles with: - my current location - the current time - the weather - booking attractions and excursions (payments, scheduling, etc.)

There is probably friction here but I think it would be really cool for an agent to serve as a personalized (or group) travel agent.

Re:Opensource.cooking: A simple, bloat-free cooking site on Wednesday April 07, 2021 @02:17PM (#26728747)
I have been thinking about how to solve this problem a lot lately. With the pandemic, I have been learning more recipes at home. I too share the frustration of browsing a recipe website and then getting a 7 paragraph story behind it. Just give me the recipe!

started uploading some personal recipes to https://benjaminclauss.github.io/minimalchef/ with Hugo (PR's welcome) but this definitely will not scale

I would definitely use a Strava for Cooking.

I used to see a lot of online sentiment that Vue would "take over" where React is used now. Is this still the case?
