I mean, 15 years is relatively recent.

I remember when "cloud computing" was stuff like SETI@Home where a bunch of decentralized, distributed nodes all contributed computing power. But I think that's called the Blockchain now?

I don't know. I usually live under a rock.

That's fair. The distinction wasn't clear to me. Guess that's why they decided to change the name

I feel like Cloud means something now, and as part of the general lexicon, it's okay to use it for what it means. At this point, Cloud kind of means that it's a service hosted somewhere on the Internet, that you don't control directly, usually that you pay for. Sounds like they're still doing that.

Changing the name to distance yourself from AWS and Google Cloud is fine, but "Link" doesn't really tell you anything about where it's hosted or that you still have to pay for it. In fact, by announcing this change with the specific goal of distancing yourself from Big Tech it kind of implies that you're no longer a paid service that happens in some remote data center.

But whatevs. Words don't actually mean anything anymore anyway.

As an American who likes to experience new things, this makes me very sad.

I'm at a point in my life that I'm able to travel and see the world beyond my town. I don't like being a jerk and try very hard to not be a jerk. This piece makes me feel like a jerk for being curious.

However, this does remind me that people in other countries kind of suck just as much as Americans. We're often led to believe that Europeans are enlightened and superior to the illiterate, xenophobic, simpletons in the US. It's a good reminder that intolerance, prejudice, and willful ignorance are universal attributes.

Re:TinyJS – Shorten JavaScript QuerySelect with $ and $$ on Wednesday October 02, 2024 @08:56PM (#41726335)
I remember when we would throw this into our utilities.js scripts back in like 2007. We didn't have querySelector yet, though. We'd also walk to school with no shoes, in the snow, uphill, both ways.

Is the content AI generated as well?

Came here to say this. I thought "Now that it's not streaming, I've at least got a copy on Amazon Prime!" Nope. Not anymore. And definitely can't get Season 3 any longer. Complete bullshit.
Fwiw, the "frissons" (free-saws) is the cajun word for "the heebie-jeebies".

But if you can't copyright something that was created via automation (https://www.ipwatchdog.com/2022/02/23/thaler-loses-ai-author...), does this even matter?
