I would also recommend Tatiana Nikolayeva's (1924–1993) Bach recordings. She is considered to be one of the greatest Bach Interpreters. I am fortunate my current teacher was a student of hers in Russia when she was between the ages of 8-14, and am now studying some Bach with her.

All wealth originates from Nature. Destroy enough of it and wealth will increase for some. Enough people die off, land and property can be reclaimed.

Finally, someone typed what I was thinking.
I consulted with a place where they brought in a contractor to do AWS stuff. He spent weeks troubleshooting tomcat on EC2, his resume said he knew cloudformation yet when he was asked to write a lambda function using the tool, I had to do it for him. Knew nothing about troubleshooting Postgres on RDS etc. Fast forward a couple of years and he had a couple of AWS certs and was now being employed by some firms to better implement AWS usage. Myself, have no AWS certs myself but have done migration and large project work for several firms. So I think they can definitely be useful for baseline knowledge. This same person I mentioned above also said the company I was at at the time (a startup) should hire him as an Architect yet he doesn't do any app-level coding etc. So I suppose while the cloud bootstrap work is around for now, I definitely see this type of stuff getting consolidated.

Mozart can be hard to get. It's been said he was primarily a composer for voice no matter the instrument he composed for. His slow pieces are the most otherwordly.

In my own experience, I believe people have been trained from a very young age to "get up and GO" and for many years working in Software I would wake up and immediately start thinking about work problems etc.

My conclusion is that it is a waste of mental energy which is very evident on days you are feeling under the weather etc. These days it is all about a gradual wake up, having a nutritious breakfast and spending time with my dog (walking) before I leave for work commute.

The author Zecharia Sitchin wrote about this in one or more of his books. His claim is that the Sumerians wrote about this exact thing.
Re:Sydney Opal Tower: Thousands evacuated after 'crack' on Tuesday December 25, 2018 @02:43PM (#18758891)
Reading a lot of the comments here about poor quality of new construction have resonated with my own recent experience: I left a luxury high-rise in Chicago that had been built within the last ten years. The building was a later addition to a retail building which contained restaurants and shops. Shortly after moving in, I'd come home to find old grease and trash smells or the smell which I can only describe as an old warehouse.

Thinking it was just residual odors, I would clean and re-clean and later installed a couple of hepa portable filtration systems but the odors remained. Started looking around only to find there was little to no sealant around openings for the sprinkler systems, or underneath the sink unit/washing machine, or any of the flooring etc.

Because the building was pressurized, the odors from the grease traps and/or trash units deep below would come in through even the wall sockets. Mind you, this wasn't every day but regular enough to be very unpleasant. Similar complaints from other residents about cigarette odors coming in their apartments but building management would never be able to trace down issue and would just have restaurants empty out grease traps. All this for an apartment I spent nearly 3,000 a month for. My advice to others is to be very skeptical of any new buildings no matter the location and to be very sure you know what you are getting into.

Re:Bach, the Master Recycler on Tuesday December 25, 2018 @09:19AM (#18757500)
It is documented that Bach was a great improviser, much like his contemporary Handel, and others who came after him (Mozart, Beethoven, and Schumann). Improvisation has since been lost in the Classical World but is alive and well in the Jazz world. In Jazz, the term 'vocabulary' is often used to describe styles or influences within the genre. With Bach, he literally built and refined the language from which all other vocabularies stemmed from.

Not if the insurance companies can help it.
Cause of death would be nice instead of 'why dead?'

Debussy won the Prix de Rome but became restless with the musical theory and composition training he received.

Re:Ask HN: What's the worst kind of technical debt? on Sunday June 17, 2018 @11:30AM (#17332771)
Agree with the tests tech debt comment. Another huge problem is organizing deployments and environment configs in general for those shops not using something like k8s etc.
Don't think the US can match Japan for loneliness/isolation.
am a DevOps guy and while I love programming, I am also looking at a career change in the next couple of years. A book recommendation via a friend who moved from Regional Store Mgmt into Financial Advising is the book, "What Color is Your Parachute". Some good advice in there you may want to check
Re:Ask HN: Who is not betting on Elixir and why not? on Saturday August 05, 2017 @10:32AM (#14935898)
The deployment can be difficult to automate especially if you are attempting to inject application properties at runtime.

There are solutions out there, though documentation may not cover every use-case, especially if you are deploying to something like AWS or GCP (Not everyone can adopt Docker just yet).

The Hot-Upgrade is a great idea though you will have to do your research to integrate this with your Cloud Provider.

Overall I'm betting adoption will be niche, and primarily via Teams coming from Rails. Until a major cloud provider starts offering native support + the community grows to a sizable percentage, it will be slow to catch on.

DAS BOOT!! I remember talking to a colleague about this movie at a former job, and a woman near me piped: "Who would want to watch a movie about a Boot?!" We were speechless and she was totally serious.
In the Wii U version (MK8), using the super horn immediately before the blue shell hits you will neutralize it.
