Re:What Are You Building? Share Your Projects on Friday May 03, 2024 @09:53AM (#40247685)
I am building https://photorealisticultrasound.com/ - an automatic tool to convert 3D ultrasounds of babies into photo-like images.

I was playing with Stable Diffusion and stumbled upon a post in r/PhotoshopRequests looking for people to do such editing manually. I tried Stable Diffusion and was surprised how good the result was. So I made it into a service.

It was challenging to kickstart the project from the marketing perspective. But there was quite some virality, which helped.

Another big challenge is number of factors affecting the quality of the results. The number of degrees of freedom to tinker with is large, so experimenting and iterating is tricky. However, I did learn a lot from this project - both technically and marketing.

Currently I am focusing on rewriting the generation pipeline to dramatically improve quality, especially on obstructed ultrasounds.

I am working on https://photorealisticultrasound.com/. It converts 3D ultrasounds of not yet born babies into photo-like images using AI.

I am experiment with the funnel - how aggressive the preview quality needs to be.

Benchmarks: https://imgur.com/DWNQcaY ([Table 2 on Page 7](https://storage.googleapis.com/deepmind-media/gemini/gemini_...)) - Gemini Pro (the launched model) is worse than ChatGPT4, but a bit better than GPT3.5. All the examples are for Ultra (the actual state of the art model), which won't be available until 2024.
Gist:

A new federal law requiring that sesame be listed as an allergen on food labels is having unintended consequences—increasing the number of products with the ingredient.

Food industry experts said the requirements are so stringent that many manufacturers, especially bakers, find it simpler and less expensive to add sesame to a product—and to label it—than to try to keep it away from other foods or equipment with sesame.

Could you check whether there are any errors in developer console (Ctrl + Shift + I and then "console"?

How to bootstrap side projects.

I have a strong hypothesis that working on my side projects full time would make me happier. These days I focus on noticing my own problems and exploring whether others have them too.

Reminds me of https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/mortality-death-cl..., which does the same but on the new tab page in Chrome. The only problem is that one gets adapted to it and stops noticing it.

This looks exactly like https://jointoucan.com/. I struggle to see any difference. Really surprised that you have 9000 users already. Perhaps I miss some important difference from Toucan?

Funnily enough I also never heard about Toucan before. I made https://vocabboost.online/ (which uses a similar idea, but for making languate tests out of webpages) and only then users told me that it was similar to Toucan.

Ask HN: On Twitter, do you get spam, troll or toxic replies?

Recently Pieter Levels shared his script[0] to mute and make unfollow some of his followers by keywords in their bio and other criteria. He says that "if you have over 10,000 followers, replies on here become increasingly toxic, political, annoying" and this is his way to improve his experience.I am wondering how widespread this problem is and what your experience is. Do you or people you know...

I think "come up with an idea" is a wrong way to approach this. How many ideas did you test? I suggest to treat this as "fishing". People don't get "wonderful business ideas", people get some ideas and test them. Because how good an idea is depends on many factors and it can be hard for anyone to judge.

So I am pretty sure you are able to come up with ideas. Perhaps you just see them as "bad" and don't even try to test them. I would suggest you to find the most promising idea and think how you could test whether this is a problem other's might have. As you noticed, I used "problem" here, because ultimately you want to solve a problem.

If you struggle with finding problems, try noticing your own inconveniences. Imagine that you have magic abilities to fix everything, what would you change in your own life?
