Thank you! I didn’t realize those were expandable until I read your comment.

The black triangle bullets are expandable, folks, and worth expanding.

Re:Try the Mosquito Bucket of Death on Wednesday July 30, 2025 @11:10AM (#44735265)
Anyone else use mosquito fish? I got some from the pet store, put them in our small koi pond, and the mosquitoes really died off dramatically.
Re:It is as if you were on your phone on Sunday March 09, 2025 @01:20PM (#43311300)
Heh, I loved it within seconds. So relaxing while also so darkly funny. Everyone is a bit different I guess. I sent it to some of my art-biz friends.
Re:Pee If You Want to Go Deeper (2021) on Sunday February 23, 2025 @03:05PM (#43152706)
As a guy I found this article oddly riveting — the author seems super cool for being so candid. But the “pee slowly” thing had me coming to the comments to learn more: is this something ladies can typically do?
Re:The Origin of Ambergris (2012) on Friday July 05, 2024 @12:24AM (#40879822)
Really interesting to read. So IIUC ambergris is _sometimes_ formed in the 4th (last) sperm whale stomach, is basically a constipatory plug of indigestible squid parts (beaks, quills, and eye lenses) which either eventually passes thru the whale’s anus, ruptures the intestine and kills the whale, or is (was?) harvested on rare occasion by whalers. And if you’re lucky you can find it washed up on beaches.
Interestingly, basketballs are designed to be as standardized and replaceable as possible (so there’s no question about whether they affected the game.) Whereas musicians do not think of instruments that way. Nor photographers and their cameras, etc. The reaction might be specific to artists. They’re represented on HN, but not as much as non-artists, I bet.

Any citations for it being rare?
Re:An analysis of the rabbit R1 APK on Thursday May 02, 2024 @11:27PM (#40243733)
Can we as a society ease up on the use of the word ‘bespoke’ thank you so much.
I wouldn’t wish a forced-read of that guy’s bio on my worst enemy. (But I did just send it to all my close friends.)
I believe they just mean any random Apple device (iPhone, iPad, iMac, etc)
Re:The Extraordinary Lives of Coast Redwoods on Friday March 08, 2024 @10:55AM (#39642220)
I was happy to see the word “bolus” in this essay.
Re:A 45 year engineer clears up electric sauna ventilation on Saturday March 02, 2024 @02:26AM (#39570665)
Is he 45, or has he been an engineer for 45 years? Either way, I wish I had this guy’s sauna.
If it is destroyed without anyone seeing it, how does the IRS verify that it was indeed a loss? Couldn’t a studio lie about making a film, then simply say they destroyed it?
Re:Marlon Brando Was a Secret Tech Geek and Photoshop Ace (2015) on Thursday February 01, 2024 @02:32AM (#39213576)
“The actor was even an early user of CoSa After Effects, the post-production program used for green screen and other effects work, which was eventually sold to Adobe.”

As a longtime After Effects user this blew my mind. Very cool, thanks for sharing this!

Re:How we made an animated movie in 8kB on Thursday January 25, 2024 @04:18AM (#39127699)
Holy cow, thank you! I read this once, a year or two back, and have been trying to find it again but without luck. What a cool text.
Thank you so much. I don’t always mind long form articles when they justify their length, but this one would have been better if it started with your summary, followed by the some nitty gritty details, followed by meta analysis interleaved with yet more nitty gritty details.
Re:What You Don't Know About Sperm on Friday January 05, 2024 @05:23PM (#38885830)

Re:Multifaceted: The linguistic echo chambers of LLMs on Sunday December 03, 2023 @03:22AM (#38505692)
I had the same reaction. Whether or not it’s worse, tho, it does seem at least different. The regurgitation loop used to be all human, but now there is a machine in the loop. A complex & multifaceted machine, ha.
Re:Citrix acquired and merged with Tibco for $16.5B on Saturday October 01, 2022 @12:28AM (#33043869)
I worked at Citrix from 1996 thru 2000. In the early days, Citrix was licensing Windows NT (source code) from Microsoft and selling a modified version of it such that (a) one could remotely control/display Windows apps, and (b) multiple users could do this simultaneously. At a certain point (‘98?) Microsoft announced they would soon offer the same functionality as Citrix, and the stock got crushed. In the end, though, it seemed Microsoft decided the practical thing to do would be to roll their own version of “(a)” (dubbed “RDP”) and license “(b)” (back, as it were) from Citrix. At least I think it was something like that.
It is really cool to be able to open a browser in your desktop and visit your website, recursively. How many levels deep have you tested this?
Re:How I See Numbers on Thursday March 03, 2022 @06:24PM (#30548477)
From a young age I tended to assign gender to the lower numbers, no idea why. It’s roughly an even / odd thing, but not always. For example, 1 is male, 2 is female. 3 male, 4 female, 5m, 6f, 7m, 8f, 9f, 10m, 11m, 12f, …
Re:Arthur' Canceled at PBS After 25 Seasons on Wednesday July 28, 2021 @05:53PM (#27990236)
When I became a dad a few years back I ended up watching a lot of PBS content for kids. I actually really enjoyed Arthur a lot. The art has a nice style, the characters are swell, and it tends to irritate me much less than other kid shows. But for whatever reason my sons (both < 6yrs) adamantly refuse to watch it. Maybe the look is for younger kids but the content is for older kids?
