congrats guys!
Thanks for the feedback. We'll add the google type confirmation in the future.
Cool. Thanks for the feedback! I'll take a look in evolution.
That's just for now. We're manually running the scans to monitor the results as they come in. After our beta, scan results will be viewable in less than a day.

Ask HN: review my startup ironode.com (simple/automated security testing)

http://www.ironode.comHey guys, please checkout my MVP security testing app (ironode.com); it crawls your site for open web exploites (sql inject, xss, xsrf etc..). I've allocated 30 free accounts for HN users - I'll add more as we finish the scans for people.Questions: 1. Would you use this service? 2. Would you pay for it? Any feedback is greatly appreciated!!Thanks guys!

Re:Ask HN: website security app (sanity check) on Friday October 29, 2010 @12:39AM (#1846162)
That was one of my main concerns.

I'm hoping to provide a more comprehensive service that is also much easier to use and therefore add enough value to make it a pay service.

Nice! Yeah, consulting stuff makes sense as an add-on down the road.

Email me (see my profile) and I'll give you free scans when I launch if you'd like.

Cool. More on the application code side.

Email me (see my profile) and I'll give you free scans when I launch if you'd like.

That's the plan. Thanks!

They don't go as in-depth at the application level.

Do you use any of other the other services?

Ask HN: website security app (sanity check)

Hey HNers, I've received less than excited responses from friends about what I'm building and need a sanity check from you guys.I've been working on some automated security testing software that would crawl and scan sites for open web exploites (sql inject, xss, xsrf etc..).Initially I'd offer free scans to HNer sites and the bigger goal is to create a paid service. Would you use this...

Ask HN: review startup uptimerobot.com (free uptime checking)

Uptime Robot (http://uptimerobot.com) is a free (for now) uptime checking service. The idea is that maybe an ad-supported model can work (instead of a pingdom type subscription service).Would you use this? Is the $10/month for pingdom inconsequential and it's more about the features for you? Thoughts? Thanks!

1. A mvp shouldn't take 8 months. You need to launch faster and you need to talk to your customers before, during and always. 2. TC doesn't matter much. I've received 2 posts and about 4000 visits for each post and only a handful of real users from those visits - you need a good product. 3. The initial idea doesn't matter that much. You probably won't start with the best idea. Iterate, iterate, iterate to the best product and idea.

It's not easy. Good luck!! Hope you stick with it.

Thanks! I have gone through a similar process.

haha, nice analogy! Yeah, the music industry has extra hurdles for sure.
Re:Ask HN: how do you decide when to quit, stick or pivot on Tuesday August 31, 2010 @12:18PM (#1649862)
I agree. Inspiration is a big factor. I have hard numbers based on 50K users of where I think this can go; I just struggle with not finishing things.

Good luck with your deal! Pandora took 10 years to be where it is, so it's obviously the right thing to do in some cases.

Ask HN: how do you decide when to quit, stick or pivot

The single hardest question in the startup world for me is, when to quit/pivot/stick.1. Stick (keep pushing forward; it's too early to quit) 2. Pivot (change the product, but stay in the same industry) 3. QuitI'm thinking of putting my recently relaunched startup iSound.com back to side project status - which essentially means quitting (at least as a business). Most great companies take years to...
