And the shirt in Vietnam is exponentially cheaper than in the West. The price difference is pure segmentation. I fail to see how this is suppression.

Pantheon.

It comes back to communication. If management acknowledges the issue but redirects budget elsewhere due to priorities, it's legit. Communicating it in a way IT personnel understand and accept isn't necessarily easy. Sometimes there's also incentive for management to avoid it altogether (we need to focus elsewhere and this could burn you out, but you're an acceptable loss).

That said, management needs to know there's pain and in a language it speaks - risk. Cost, legal, whatever. Preferably quantified without drowning them in numbers or fear mongering. That's what pain is all about.

Agreed. The whole intensity discussion is pointless.
I wasn't talking about Israel. I pointed out the antisemitic metaphor. Like it or not, that's the same language. I find the sarcasm of the parent taking sides and crossing into that territory telling. It's further strengthened by their response after being called out.

There, now you know. Hope you feel safe behind the throwaway account. Karma's tough, right?

Thank you for providing more insight. Good to know you're not ashamed and what you use to justify that.
As is the US. Go watch same interviews.
Thank you for the classic antisemitic metaphor, that was helpful.

Now that's a tattoo right there. Never forget.

I read this and felt like I was reading a moltbook post.

Am I an agent? Are you?

Is Claude... God?

And who dies when GI Joe bets on the the date of an operation?

And if nobody dies, is it okay?

Sounds exactly the same to me. Maybe it's you who's pretending?

Of course not. There is no war in Ba Sing Se.

Oh whew, I thought he was using hunter2 as his password too.
He's talking about the military filtering process. Who the military considers as "the best" depends on its needs. Simply put, if needs more fighting bodies, so that takes precedence. The Knesset is fighting over public opinion - who gets conscripted in the first place. It's who gets put through the funnel in the first place.
And this description is based on what?

Or buy colo space and they do it for you. It's not all cloud vs owning a datacenter - There's a thousand shades of ltgrey

I've done it. It's nowhere as complicated as you make it seem. It definitely doesn't kill - no more than failing to manage your software tech debt. In fact, the latter is both harder keep up with and more risky, because it changes faster than the low level stuff, to support business needs.

With the cloud you have IT/DevOps deal only with scaling the software components of the infra. When doing on-prem they take on the physical layer as well. Do you have enough trust in them to scale the physical part where needed?

Cross region from on-prem to the cloud for a website is easy. In fact, as long as you don't buy into "cloud native" ("cloud lock-in"?), it's probably more cost effective than two on-prem regions or two cloud regions.

When there's little trust between the business and IT, both are incentivized to move to the cloud.

It's harder to build trust than the opposite.

Admin: We should turn off the AV auto update in prod and test it in staging first.

Manager/CISO: That would increase our exposure time on zero day vulnerabilities. Overruled.

Those are not mutually exclusive.
"Most computer systems we interact with have an auth system of some kind."

The first sentence in the article actually highlights a nice "side effect" of the very thing it complains about. Covering "Authentication" and "Authorization" with a single "auth". Convenient for those who understand the concepts and don't need the distinction. Especially since these terms are strongly related and often come together.

So essentially you order off the menu based on your surroundings?

I'm on a OnePlus 11 (upgraded from a OnePlus 6T) and it's great. My only issue is that there's a small selection of cases for it, especially if you want one that's magsafe compatible.

This was difficult to read. Not a hint of empathy on that thread.
